Smallest U.S. job gains in seven months temper rate hike expectations

The U.S. economy added the fewest number of jobs in seven months in April and Americans dropped out of the labor force in droves, signs of weakness that left economists anticipating only one interest rate hike from the Federal Reserve this year.

Nonfarm payrolls increased by 160,000 jobs last month as construction employment barely rose and the retail sector shed jobs for the first time since December 2014, the Labor Department said on Friday.

April's job gains were the smallest since September and below the first-quarter average job growth of 200,000. Adding to the report's soft tone, employers added 19,000 fewer jobs in February and March than previously reported.

The slowdown in hiring came against the backdrop of weak economic growth, subdued productivity and corporate profits. It prompted several Wall Street banks, including Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Barclays, to lower their interest rate hike expectations for this year to one from two before the report.

Rising interest rates bring the government’s fiscal house-of-cards crashing down, and burst the debt bubble explosively...so do the math...if American’s standard of living rises (or even just stops falling), the bubble (and the financing of the Federal budget) bursts. So the environmentalists have a powerful ally in their desire to reduce America’s standard of living...and you should never expect economic improvement under this governing oligarchy.

Beau is in Construction and they are swamped and can’t FIND people that can even tie their shoes to come to work for them.

Things are really crazy here in Wisconsin. Of course, Governor Walker gets the blame after DECADES of ‘Rats promising everything to everyone...and not insisting that people learn any bankable skills!

Yes, well you might want to keep your voice down or you’ll be up to your elbows in illegals.

They love to do construction work.

Good point, but they don’t even have that pool to draw from. They need higher-end workers who actually know what they’re doing, versus chump labor.

Plus, the Unions in Wisconsin are pretty racist when it comes to Blacks and Hispanics. Of course, being as Liberal as WI is in parts, they get away with it, no questions asked.

I guess it’s good to be a Liberal Union Goon...

Let's see what we can find in the BLS A9 table.

Full time workers - down 253,000
Part time workers - down 21,000
Multiple job holders - down 55,000

So how does that come out to 161,000 jobs gained?
