As a cigar smoker what this means is that in a couple of years (or sooner) most cigar stores will close, most Dominican, Honduran, Nicaraguan, Peruvian and American growers, manufacturers and distributors of cigars will be out of business because FDA will have to "approve" all new products and within three years "approve" all products that hit the market since 2007.
Since the FDA already states their view (with the usual phony "science") that all cigars are harmful it will be difficult if not impossible to gain their approval for a specific cigar. The FDA approval process could cost six figures for one cigar brand--and then they could be (and in my view most will be) rejected.
It will soon dawn on growers and distributors that the risk of their business will exceed the potential reward and the vast majority will close their businesses laying off thousands in several countries.
This is a classic case of the nanny state on steroids--out of control and striking out at any politically incorrect group.
When cigars are outlawed, only outlaws will have cigars.

Great news. The smoking wars are largely over, this will help put an end to the scourge.
The only scourge I see is government elites trying to tell the rest of us how to live our lives.
It won’t work—there will be a black market just like we have now for Cuban cigars.

When is the FDA going to get involved with labeling and getting a list of ingredients from the pot stores?
I find it odd that many of the same folks who want to legalize pot are the same folks who rally against smoking (not all but many).
I also find it odd that here where I am, you can’t even build a patio on your tavern anymore where smokers can go, but you can have Hookah lounges where hipsters smoke indoors (but you can’t have a cigar lounge anymore).
This makes no sense to me. This upsets me, but I can’t put my finger on exactly why. Maybe just the hypocrisy.

I know what you mean for frustration (I live in CO). But I think the reason why is that the FDA has “federal” jurisdiction. Marijuana is not legal on a federal level, it’s legal on a state level. Another example, let’s say that a company manufactures drugs, but as long as all their ingredients, distribution, etc. is within the state, the FDA doesn’t have jurisdiction (even though this situation is rare).
Bill Clinton would never have done this.
If you fill cigars with hemp, you’ll be ok.

The only problem is that these smoking bans, which are merely a marketing scam for the pharmaceutical nicotine industry, are eliminating thousands of hospitality establishments and hundreds of thousands of jobs.””
Pfizer is also the maker of Chantix. This is why they went after e cigarettes. It was putting a hurt on the pharma boys bottom line. Patches weren’t working. Chantix wasn’t working and with horrible side effects.
But e- cigarettes are working. They’ve helped thousands of people quit smoking, but Pfizer was losing money.
I hate politicians and special interests.

What “scourge”...lawyers and state public funds garnered the most cash out of the scam suit from the fed on that last debacle. I roll pipe tobacco because I can get a pound for 13.99 at tax class L . Name brand smokes have severe and far more complex carcinogens because of additives and flavorings. What I smoke is basic tobacco ....what the hell do you think got America rolling ? ...the scourge you mention is it....shame you have no idea what a boon tobacco has been and is to the cash pits states need and depend upon. I find any further intervention insult to injury . But I am speaking to a person who knows not of what he/she speaks.
Maybe I should go to all the vape shops and buy as many vapers as I can afford and sell them in a few months when they will be worth at least twice as much.
