Just announced he also gets 15 months in prison followed by th e 2 years of supervised release. WLS said the judge gave Denny Hastert a “tongue lashing”. What a picture that conjures up of this pervert.

how many years would a non-important person who did the same thing in the same circumstances be looking at? 20? 50?

15 months?! Blago got 16 years and did far less!!

As someone who’s married to a sexual abuse survivor and knowing first hand the extensive damage it does to the victims, I am sickened to my stomach. I work across the street from dirksen federal plaza and I’m going there right now!

Can you believe he just got sued for “breach of Contract” by one of the guys he was paying “hush money” to ? Our legal system is a huge mess and if I were to ask a new President for something, it would be Tort Reform.

Plus Denny Hastert has to pay a $250,000 fine and take sex offender training classes.

That is not a sentence. That’s barely a clause.

Especially considering the fact that what he is charged with has nothing to do with any abuse.. only crime he’s accused of is withdrawing his own money in amounts under 10k.... that’s it.

Not excusing Hassert’s actions, but this whole thing is a perversion of the legal system.

He also got some prison time..... Check the articles on the net......

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/dennis-hastert-ex-house-speaker-arrives-sentencing-wheelchair-n563401

Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert was sentenced Wednesday to 15 months in prison for illegal cash withdrawals he made for payoffs to cover up sex-abuse allegations — after the judge called him a “serial child molester.”

The Hastert conviction has nothing to do with any past sexual abuse. It is based on the financial manipulations involved in the payments to individuals who may have been sexually abused. Yes, he may be sued by some of the individuals he abused and to whom he was making payments. I assume that the lawsuits will be based on breach of contract, not sexual abuse.

He hasn’t been charged with any sexual abuse.... understand he’s been convicted of simply withdrawing money in lots smaller than 10,000 to keep the bank from filing paperwork with the fed... that’s it.

They are using this to try to seek punishment for other crimes he has neither been charged with or convicted of, because the statute of limitations are up on them.

I am not excusing Hassert for his alleged abuse, but this whole thing is a perversion of the legal system in my mind.

did the person who received the money have to report it to the IRS ?

Normally one giving the "gift" is responsible for paying the gift taxes if any is due. The lifetime exemption is over $5M, so he probably doesn't owe any taxes. However, Hastert should have reported the gift if it exceeded the yearly amount of ~$14K. It would seem to me if Hastert doesn't claim blackmail, then it is a gift.

But the statute of limitations is expired for the past sexual crimes. He’s only charged with trying to skirt around the financial laws re: withdrawing his own cash and lying to the investigators.

Which makes the whole 'no contact with the rape victims condition totally irrelevant to the crime. He didn't even get a slap on the wrist for the crimes with which he was charged.

But I just saw the posting from the WaPo - that sounds more reasonable based upon the charges:

Judge sentences former U.S. House speaker Dennis Hastert to 15 months in federal prison
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3425194/posts

Hope the WaPo is telling the truth, and the radio station wasn’t.

He showed up in court for sentencing, in a wheelchair. To gain sympathy.

His lifestyle will not be reduced. He will still have $ millions, from his lobby/investment banker years, after his “service” in Congress.

IOW another establishment crony capitalist, elected elitist.

Didn’t Hastert just marry Harris Wofford?

He could’ve gotten five years. Clearly the fix was in for Denny.

I have video of him leaving Dirksen Federal Building in a wheelchair with a tin of security. As soon as I can upload it from my phone I’ll post the link.

I think there was so much outrage after the 2 years probation sentence was announced that the the establishment instructed the media to change the story to the prison sentence.

Who's ever going to know the real story?

Well, the Prison records can be checked in a few months to see whether or not he is listed as an inmate somewhere. Guys like him will frequently be given a report date a few months out unless the judge is mad about something.
