10 years is a subjective arbitrary number that you like, that will be debated and ultimately you will see plenty of serious crimes that would get more years, get less than 10 because jusges will not sentence them to death. You would see people that would not have hurt anyone physically and would hsve never have been up for a death sentence, be sentenced to death.
I understand the idea you are trying to do, but it is more complicated. Here is how i wold do it.
Murderers - all are executed if convicted of murder. If person admits, and/or irrefutable video shows them doing it, or evidence that overwhelmingly shows they did it, sentence carried out within days. If no admission or dead to rights evidence but only circumstantial, if person has history of such behavior dead within days, if not, appeal to state supreme court, just one, and needs to be concluded within 30 days. If no funny business/framed discovered by state supreme court, dead in days.
Serious violent felons, if multiple,repeat offenders, dead in days. First time long sentence. Second time long sentence. Third time dead in days of sentencing. Violence cannot be trumped up pushing or shoving or scratching, not minor crap. Must be with deadly weapons. Cars and hammers and screwdrivers count as well.
Non violent felons. Long sentences. Longer if keep doing same crimes over and over.
