17 Health Benefits of Cayenne Pepper

Many societies, especially those of the Americas and China, have a history of using cayenne pepper therapeutically. A powerful compound with many uses, cayenne pepper is currently gaining buzz for cleansing and detoxifying regimes such as the Master Cleanse, which uses the spice to stimulate circulation and neutralize acidity.

Cayenne pepper has been used for a variety of ailments including heartburn, delirium, tremors, gout, paralysis, fever, dyspepsia, flatulence, sore throat, atonic dyspepsia, hemorrhoids, menorrhagia in women, nausea, tonsillitis, scarlet fever and diphtheria.

1. Anti-Irritant Properties

Cayenne has the ability to ease upset stomach, ulcers, sore throats, spasmodic and irritating coughs, and diarrhea.

2. Anti-Cold and Flu Agent

Cayenne pepper aids in breaking up and moving congested mucus. Once mucus begins to leave the body, relief from flu symptoms generally follows.

3. Anti-Fungal Properties

The results of one study indicated that cayenne pepper could effectively prevent the formation of the fungal pathogens phomopsis and collectotrichum [1].

4. Migraine Headache Prevention

This may be related to the pepper’s ability to stimulate a pain response in a different area of the body, thus reverting the brain’s attention to the new site. Following this initial pain reaction, the nerve fibers have a depleted substance P (the nerve’s pain chemical), and the perception of pain is lessened.

5. Anti-Allergen

Cayenne is an anti- agent and may even help relieve allergies.

I love to cook bean soup with hot tomatoes and vegetables and either pork, chicken, or beef. Instead of using Rotel tomatoes, I am making my own hot tomatoes by adding cayenne pepper to regular stewed tomatoes.

BTW, I use dried beans (soaked) instead of canned.

I forgot to mention that I also add a large can of sliced jalapeno’s to my soup. Love hot food.

I mix two or three tablespoons in a glass of water. And gulp it down. Helps when my blood pressure spikes.

Stopped eating hot food a few decades ago. In many cases (mine for instance) it’s for the young. In some dishes I genuinely miss it like chili, tacos and linguini with calamari fra diavolo. But I don’t miss the pain.

I open a bottle of Red Hot and pour some on a spoon and drink it down....YUM.....

I also use a lot of Tony Chacere(sp?) on everything from potatoes to eggs to stew, etc....use a little in your beef gravy and it really knocks it up a notch...

Put a sizable shot of pepper in whiskey, warmed to at least a tepid level, strip off your clothes, jump into bead, and wait for the sweat to come.

Clears the sinuses, ends the outbreak of boils and/or acne, opens the lungs, removes the cholesterol plague on your circulatory system, and settles digestive problems, but you think you are in Hell for a while.

My doctor prescribed it for general use, but it also seems to do the trick with anything spicy.

I also find that by eating spicy food regularly, I am immune to it.

Try Crystal or Bull, you might find that it is a better experience.

That would be #18! How much does it knock off? I was able to knock off 25 points with a combo of hibiscus tea and flak 2x daily, switching to decaf (sigh) and not adding salt.

I still have a ways to go.

I hadn't realized in my college days that I was eating health food when I had Harold's fried chicken (Chicago), wonder bread and fries DOUSED in the stuff.

I get spikes up to 240/150 range. I can get it under 200. Enough so i don’t feel like I am going to stroke out. My Dr. yells at me not to run out of meds. But what does he know? :-)

I haven’t been up there for a while. Switched from Lisinopril to Amlodipine. The Lisinopril was crap. I also was diagnosed with severe PTSD last year and the meds for that help with the spikes too.
