As a Cruzer - let me say this is a good question.
And the answer goes to the lack of popularity for either Trump or Cruz.
Candidates only win when they have the SUPPORT of their voters. Example: We all voted for McCain. Romney too. But we held our nose as we did so.
That - my friend is a sure ticket to Loserville. We didn’t support either of those two goons, and the majority of Repubs will not support Ted or Trump in the fall. We may vote for one of them. But it won’t help.

In my opinion if the convention doesn’t go for the 1st Place guy (Trump) then they have to hit the reset button and pick a completely different candidate altogether.
Also- is it possible that Trump rallies enough of the White Working class to completely change the electoral process? There’s still more white working class males than anyone else. If they all vote for him...possible win? Or just wishful thinking...
If he had been really serious about putting a Republican in the White House, which ALL of the other candidates running were, he would not have begun attacking, mercilessly and with the degradation of a demagogue, every candidate that was running and ultimately until no one but he and Cruz were left...... and both are now ‘severely damaged by the fight’.....Almost like to finish the job....he's attacking every states rules, delegates,and the over all process ....
When you consider that Trumps very few and far between attacks on Hillary and Bernie carried almost ‘none’ of the vitriol he has been spewing at Ted Cruz and other candidates along the way,...it could be said he's out to destroy any chance of anything getting in Hillary's way....as his campaign now seems to be all about delgitimizing the entire process.
It could be said....the Demorats couldn't have planned it any better....destroying everything that opposes them using one of their own....
