Giants lineup could make AT&T Park look hitter-friendly
San Jose Mercury News ^ | April 3rd, 2016 | By Andrew Baggarly

MILWAUKEE -- Buster Posey is going with multi-dimensional. For Brandon Crawford, it's depth. Joe Panik chooses balance. For Hunter Pence, it's all about the collective.

"A bunch of grinders," said Denard Span. "Relentlessness, maybe?" said Matt Duffy, raising an eyebrow.

And what word would Brandon Belt select to summarize the character and potential of the Giants offense this season?

"Aw, honestly," Belt said. "I just can't wait to see how many runs we can put up."

It was the talk of the spring: How deep, balanced and potent can this Giants offense be this season? There were more smiles in between rounds of batting practice, a looser feeling in the dugout and a giddiness that pervaded camp from the very first workout.

Now the Giants' team-wide anticipation will be put to the test, starting Monday at Miller Park against Brewers right-hander Wily Peralta.

"It's hard to pick a thing that most excites me," said Pence, who will hit cleanup and has even more energy in reserve after losing 110 games to injuries last season. "Everyone, the collective, every at-bat with this group is going to be a difficult one for the pitcher. There's not a break anywhere.

"When a pitcher has to be on his game for every single hitter, it just wears him out. And that's going to make everyone in this lineup more dangerous. If the pitcher isn't giving it his all, the game could be changed quick."

Is every local paper as wistful?

I hope so.

Even if they do have to play the Giants, again with a great starting rotation AND now with what might be the best overall offense.

PLAY BALL!

The Giants are what every team should be. Bunch of very individual (sometimes individually crazy) guys who coalesce as a sometimes-uncannily-great team.

And they have the best manager and pitching coach in baseball.

Even year. Who knows what might happen?

No matter which team you support, welcome back, baseball! You’ve been away too long.

I think this year's Giants team is the best team they have put together in several years. And that includes two World series winning groups. But - the Dodgers, and Diamondbacks are tough.

Gonna be a long, tough, fun season.

Play ball !

It’s an even-numbered year.

They might as well hand the trophy to the Giants now.

On one hand they've got some excellent talent stepping up this season.

On the other Hensley Meulens is still the batting coach. Who knows how things'll turn out? Fingers crossed.

Absolutely despise the Giants.

They’re the reason I stopped watching baseball from 2013- mid 2015.

And their manager looks like a hung-over wino who just rolled off a park bench.

Die Giants 2016

Standard look for old retired catchers. Catching , then managing is hard on the body . . .

And hung-over winos have how many World Series rings?

I think Bochy is always in the top five managers in baseball, year in and year out.

That being said . . . Bruce does like his vino ;)

And if I owned a team, he would be the manager I would try the hardest to hire.

The NL West is likely to set the MLB record for 1-run games.

Pitching is filthy in this Division. It's everywhere, up and down the line-ups and in the Bull Pen.

Good point. that could very well happen. Certainly many low scoring games. And all mostly played in pitcher's friendly parks. ( except Rockies and Diamondbacks) Gonna be another year of white knuckle games. Hope my old man heart can take it.

Yes, I’m pretty sure that is Sloan. I don’t know for sure because I borrowed the photo from the Chicago Sun-Times, (suntimes.com.) I usually try to credit photos but I’m a little rusty. I agree, nice pic.

Best time of year. The Giants have a wonderful stadium. The Dodgers have Vin Scully, best announcer. And Pujols hit a home run in Spring Training yesterday. Kansas City opened today with a full house and even the standing room only was full. The Mets were in KC for wonderful day with 74º and sunshine. God bless American is sung at every game and there is no doubt that the Mid West fans are the best. I go to Angel games regularly and it is always fun to see visiting fans looking cheerful.

A-Rod is finally gone. What a nightmare that guy was.
