Phobos and Deimos would be good intermediate targets before planting colonies on Mars itself.

It has been almost 50 years since we first landed on the moon. Not a lot of moon bases have been built in that time.

At this rate, we should have a Mars based up and running in approximately 1,500 years.

We could be there for a fraction of what is spent on welfare.

Creating a lunar colony in a subteranian opening, capping it and creating an atmosphere inside would be a first step, then follow with hydroponics and power generation.

But oddly enough for reasons I cannot explain, we will not go back to the moon?

I’d say we have a lot more pressing concerns here on earth. If someone wants to put their private money into this then more power to them but we don’t have the money for this.

Delay? I was hoping we could send a bunch of BLM, and Soros hired anti-Trump protestors on a free one way vacation. NUTS!

Maybe China will extend a few tourist visas to their Mars colony so that Americans may visit.

So why are we spending on the development of the Orion capsule and launch system which will be obsolete long before we make any real effort to go to Mars? This all sounds like vaporware to keep some contracts running while any real exploration effort will happen elsewhere.

On May 21, 1961 the President of the United States committed the nation to landing on the moon in that decade...and the American people got behind it.

Apollo 11 left for the moon in mid July 1960 and then on July 20, 1969, the United States landed on the moon and Neil Armstrong stepped out of the Lunar Module, which he piloted to the surface, onto the surface.

We easily could have permanent manned bases on the moon now.

We easily could, if we had the will and were to make a similar national commitment, land on Mars by 2025, and have permanent bases there by the 2030s.

It is all a matter of leadership, national will, and a commitment to something beyond ourselves and our creature comforts for the good of our children and grandchildren’s future.

God grant that the American people will awake from the malaise and stupor that they have been cajoled and mesmerized into by progressive socialists who promise the world and deliver nothing, and do so to control the people and the strength, vitality, and capabilities of our great Republic.

NASA is the NY Jets. Still thinking they are relevant for the great thing they did in 1969.

The US Space Program is one serious economic recession away from disappearing entirely.

Perhaps private entrepreneurs can pick up the slack in the future. I just don’t know.
