IKWYM. There was some dark subject matter in the days before the Comics Code Authority was established. Actually, the Silver Age (1960s) comics were pretty tame, and that’s the ultimate source for the movie characters. Good triumphed over evil, and we knew who was who. However, more darkness set in during the later 20th century. Another ruined American institution.

I don’t have that one, but I have the complete boxed set of “The Carl Barks Library”. According to eBay, it was a decent investment as well as great entertainment.

That one is actually not bad, I enjoyed it a lot. The weird dance set at the end is kinda out there, but then so is Kitano :)

I actually own all 26 of the original Zatoichi films, even the elusive #14 “Zatoichi’s Pilgrimmage.”

I’m on I think my 4th time back through all of them, just finished #4 last weekend. I love that stuff. My wife is half Japanese and she hates samurai films but I can watch that stuff and read the subtitles and never even notice. It distracts me not at all, I love Japanese films. And all martial arts films actually, I have a monster collection.

You know, his brother Tomisaburo Wakayama is in at least one of the Zatoichi films, more famous for “Lone Wolf and Cub” series.

I can go on like this for hours :)

And then we had to watch the dreck that came out of that war. Let’s face it, most of those movies sucked too. In fact, most movies suck.

I love going to the movies. I like a little escapism. There are very few new stories under the sun. I like popcorn. If I have to watch super heroes in spandex...I guess that’s what it takes.

There’s just so many of them, and only a few of then that I actually care to watch. I think that is what the columnist was trying to say.
