A powerful Winter Storm Selene hammered the Rockies, Plains and Midwest Wednesday and Thursday, bringing an entire region to a halt, both on the ground and in the air.
In Colorado, the state's National Guard resources were deployed to assist with rescue missions as every major highway leading out of Denver was closed, making travel nearly impossible Wednesday afternoon. More than 1,300 flights were canceled Wednesday at Denver International Airport, and officials were forced to halt all operations for several hours due to the severe wintry conditions. Once the roadway leading to the airport was cleared, the airport reopened at 7 p.m. Wednesday night.
More than 30 inches of snow fell from this storm alone in parts of Colorado; when the snow stopped, DIA officially reported 13.1 inches. Further east, the snow continued to fall Thursday on the Upper Midwest.

With a winter storm named Selene this thread needs pictures.
Almost a foot here...it’ll be gone in a couple of days.
Shoveled my driveway and helped with neighbor’s driveway this morning. Sun was out and sweatshirt came off shortly after starting. Will access tree damage later today. Yesterday was really bad.
Today is nice and sunny in Colorado. The ground is warm too, so it will melt fast. The roads are already normal.
This is impossible because ....
... never mind.
Light sleet in Northwest illinois.
What’s with the Weather Channel naming snowstorms, as if they are hurricanes???
I understand that the National Weather Service, and most media, do NOT use these names. Only the Weather Channel refers to snowstorms by name.
We’ll see if this naming catches on.
This is winter's last gasp in the Frozen North.
“Winter Storm Selene” Uh, do I need to be concerned about “Thunderstorm Fred”? Or “Sunny Day Melvina”?
“winter storm”.
Huh, I thought we were 4 days into SPRING!
I guess all my calendars and logbooks are mistaken.
Let’s amp it up! How about a huge winter storm “Cthulhu”?
“Down Slope Wind Gust Chantelle” (Are we allowed to use the word slope any longer?)
I think the storm names are silly. Nobody I know uses them.
Naming weather fronts and storms is entirely a Weather Channel creation. It is not endorsed by NOAA. That is only for hurricanes. But the Weather Channel discovered that their ratings shot up when they had named hurricane coverage. So now they name everything! You can have a named cold front on the Weather Channel.
