I remember that! The gentleman from Nevada would have been a good choice.
The press tagged Laxalt with the title “The First Friend”, he and Reagan were that close.
Not insisting on Laxalt for VP is one of recent history’s ‘might have beens’, the path not taken that would have changed things for the better.
