I suspect that being sent to England for the "home" team is punishment for not filling your stadium well enough. The Rams have been on the receiving end of that as well.

The Chiefs had that last year, even though Arrowhead usualy has a good crowd. We beat the Lions and really took off on our 10 game winning streak.

As for Sam, had there been any pressure involved then I'm sure the Rams would have had to take him higher in the draft and keep him longer. As it was the Rams took him because they had a second seventh round pick and it was worth the risk since he was an MU product. They kept him long enough to determine he wasn't NFL quality.

I gotta disagree about Sam. I think that they went to the Rams, who had the last pick and said “If he’s not drafted, take him, and we won’t do anything to hold up a move to LA.”
His combine performance was so terrible that I’m pretty sure that was the reason he made such a big deal about being gay. NFL didn’t want the hassle of LGBTQ whatevers picketing them and denouncing them all over television.
