Is Donald Trump Creating a Mafia-Like Culture of Thug-followers?
Constitution.com ^ | March 14, 2016 | Rob Knowles

I’ve reached a breaking point with those who continue to defend Donald Trump’s endless brutishness.

If you went back in time a year, and asked Trump supporters if they would ever vote for a man who made fun of POWs, mocked the physically handicapped, compared another candidate to a child molester, and shifted positions as frequently as a fat guy in a church pew, they would have likely said “No.”

How did we get here? How did we get to a place where Trump’s rhetoric and behavior is not only accepted, but emulated?

Donald Trump is a master manipulator. He came on the scene as a single issue candidate, with no other discernible positions. This was a necessity, because it allowed voters to fill in the rest with their own magic markers; the needs and ideas of millions of voters built Donald Trump from scratch. That’s why attributing any coherent policy position to the man is like trying to nail jello to a wall. His deliberately ambiguous and transitory rhetoric acts as a sort of scaffolding upon which anything can be built. This is a dangerous thing when you have an incredibly angry electorate.

When you pour yourself into an empty vessel, that vessel becomes personally linked to you. It harbors your needs, wants, and ideals in a way that nothing else can. Ultimately, what people see in Trump is their own reflection. When you see yourself in such a candidate, you’re much more likely to justify, defend, and even emulate their behavior–no matter how deplorable.

Given this, it comes as no surprise that we’re beginning to see violence at Trump rallies. Donald himself has made numerous comments passively or directly condoning violence against those who defy him.

Many people supported and defended Bill Clinton for his actions with Monica Lewinsky, not because they really thought what he did was acceptable, but because they wanted permission to misbehave without consequences.

History is, in a way, repeating itself with the actions of Donald Trump. Many center-right people, even some fully-right people, have been wanting permission to beat up those who disagree with them, either physically or verbally or in writing, for a long time, and Trump seems to be giving them permission to do so.

Trump has become their Champion.

Look at what you have ended up. Do you think that all of us who disagree with you is a p*ssy? Just because we disagree with you?

That’s all true, except “principled.” Shapiro has been repeating Cruz’s lies.

Example: When Trump said that his healthcare plan would cover the absolutely destitute, and not let people “die in the streets,” Cruz immediately began saying that “Donald Trump is for socialized, single-payer healthcare for all Americans.”

Shapiro has been repeating this lie ever since Cruz came out with it.

Wow, that long. I remember you explaining their early warning system and you were posting as it happened. Pretty cool.

The Constitution is a blueprint for how government works.

It is NOT a campaign plan! It's not a suicide pact!

Liberals have declared war on western Civilization. Cruz, his supporters, and other sissy "Conservatives" for decades have invoked the holy Constitution as their only defense.

"The Constitution is like an old blue dress...it doesn't fit anymore. - Ellen Tauscher-D former US Congresswoman

"The Constitution is a living document" - many liberals

"The 2nd Amendment was written before modern weapons; the framers only intended for it to apply to flintlocks and muzzleloaders" - innumerous gun-grabbers.

You seem to be the same argument as this crowd.

A lot of good it has gotten us.

Cruz and a small handful of others are the only people in Congress who have been defending the Constitution; I'm not sure Trump has read or understands the Constitution.

They gleefully waive the constitution around like Chamberlin patting themselves on the back for being so civilized. Meanwhile their Granny gest her head kicked in at the super market.

Sweden has a Constitution as well, too bad they can’t go outside after dark to enjoy it.

Yes, it does. Are you saying you will sacrifice or compromise the Constitution to preserve yourself? I hope that's not what you mean.

So you are willing to give up the “Holy Constitution” to ensure Trump’s funding of Planned Parenthood?

You’re willing to give up your Constitutional rights so Trump can enforce his agenda?

Not a good tradeoff in my view.

no, what I mean is beating you head against the wall to elect a now failed candidate is not as important as electing a candidate that will reverse all the Obama crap and then go forward.

Of course the constitution is important but if the USA is led by the marxist Hillary or the socialist Bernie, there will be no constitution

Principles are great unless you have been fed to the lions

You’re the one who thinks invoking the U.S. Constitution is a sign of weakness.

Invoking the Constitution IS a sign of weakness.

If you don't understand that, then you do not understand modern American politics.

With Trump your are rolling dice, loaded dice that will come up on the same number every time. That number is six, which is the number of man — any man who becomes hopelessly overcome by his vices and totally possessed with self. We see this in Obama already. Trump is an animal of different stripes and diet than Obama, but both are carnivores who feast upon others to fill themselves. Trump is self intoxicated. The Trumpaholics who are riding with him in the vehicle are oblivious to his mental state. On the other hand you have Obama who is calculating and devious, he has set up the dominoes of total global chaos. All that is lacking to set this catastrophe in motion is some, “know it all”, “is it all”, “can do it all” megalomaniac to come stumbling into office behind Obama, so drunk on his/her own inflated image of self, they set Obama’s booby trap of global destruction in motion with almost every move they make. It is literately that bad. These are the most dangerous times in modern history. Too many Americans are glued to their smart phones and have no clue whatsoever what is about to hit them and everyone else.

Has there ever been a Presidential candidate as fascistic, dangerous, loathsome, and as devoid of any particle of a redeeming quality as Trump?????

We are where we are today because we’ve ignored the constitution for so long. It is the only tool to get the genie back into the bottle. To restrain the federal government to its constitutional bounds. Ignore it at your own peril. Another strong man with another flavor of big government won’t solve anything.
