Mainstream Republicans struggle for a way to halt rise of Trump

As Trump cements his front-runner status, senior party figures are moving away from the idea of defeating him outright. At this point, they hope to deny him enough delegates to clinch the nomination, which would give them the chance to choose a compromise candidate at their July convention in Cleveland.

The last time that happened at a Republican convention was in 1948 when Thomas Dewey was nominated. Cruz said that scenario was unacceptable this year.

"If the Washington dealmakers try to steal the nomination from the people, I think it would be a disaster. It would cause a revolt," the senator from Texas told reporters in Maine.

Romney and Arizona Senator John McCain, the party's last two presidential nominees, called on Republicans to halt Trump's rise by backing whichever candidate was strongest in their state, a form of tactical voting.

Ohio Governor John Kasich, another presidential candidate who is trailing Trump, dismissed the idea.

"You gotta leave it to the voters to decide what they want. I don't take any strategy from anybody," Kasich said at the Conservative Political Action Conference outside Washington.

Few other elected officials figures are rallying behind the "Dump Trump" banner. The party's 31 state governors, for example, are not lining up behind an alternative candidate. Only five have endorsed Rubio and one has backed Cruz, in a sharp contrast to previous years when governors overwhelmingly endorsed the party's eventual nominee.

“senior party figures” and “mainstream Republicans” are NOT synonymous.

Are “senior party figures” really “mainstream Republicans”? Then maybe the GOP has to go, at least in its present form.

Not only that, all career politicians need to go. They are per se corrupt putting their own political ambitions ahead of the America People’s best interests.

If they’d fought Obama as hard they are fighting Trump, they wouldn’t have to fight Trump.

It is not mainstream Republicans who want to block Trump, it is The Cheap Labor Express and their stooges.

The Cheap Labor Express has always previously been able to count on the RNC to set up the calendar and rules to get the amnesty candidate they wanted.

Every election since the last amnesty.

Who they are really trying to block is the citizens.
They are trying to block us from retaining the rule of law and our country.

They mean to keep the borders open.
The people pipeline is paramount.

Unless they run up the white flag to Cruz so the process can pick a legitimate alternative to Trump with their acquiescence or quiet support, I guess they’ll have to play dirty with the convention process and totally destroy any chances the GOP has to win the presidency.

I have no blind allegiance to the Republican Party.

If Trump destroys them in the end, I will not shed a tear.

The country must move in a direction opposite of the one it was moved in for decades. Lets take big spending and the ever increasing national debt.

I don’t think the big banks and big business elites can accept a balanced budget, so arguing about the Democrats being of the Left and the Republicans being “Conservative” doesn’t matter, the elites control both parties and move us in the same direction.

Bogus headline....

It is the GOP elite/establishment who want to derail Trump...

Mainstream republicans would refer to the thousands and thousand across REAL America who wish for a change from the elite/establishment to a president who thinks and acts more like we do...
The common, everyday American...

“If the Washington dealmakers try to steal the nomination from the people, I think it would be a disaster. It would cause a revolt,” the senator from Texas (Cruz) told reporters in Maine.”

VERY SMART thing to say...otherwise he’d be admitting that he’s now a TOOL for the GOPe...which he is, of course (at this point in the process).

But admitting it means he loses credibility with conservatives, so he said what was necessary...although it’s hard to imagine that he really believes it.
