Boggles the mind.
From Late Night with David Letterman, Top Ten Scientific Discoveries (still gives me a chuckle):
8. Some galaxies only 10 feet away but are very, very tiny.
Maybe there should be a caption underneath Milky Way
that reads, “You are here” -> .
FYI the supergiant galaxy in that picture is IC 1101, not 1011. 1011 is a compact galaxy of the same type.
Oh, and in addition to being 6 million LY wide, it contains approx 100 Trillion stars.
Does not compute.
Can you imagine an inventory of that galaxy? Planets, stars, moons, comets, asteroids...
But think of the traffic they have to put up with!
When Obama died, George Washington met him at the Pearly Gates. He slapped him across the face and yelled, "How dare you try to destroy The Nation I helped conceive?"
Patrick Henry approached, punched him in the nose and shouted, "You wanted to end our liberties, but you failed."
James Madison followed, kicked him in the groin and said, "This is why I allowed our government to provide for the common defense!"
Thomas Jefferson was next, beat Obama with a long cane and snarled, "It was evil men like you who inspired me to write the Declaration of Independence."
The beatings and thrashings continued as James Monroe and 66 other early Americans unleashed their anger on the radical, socialist, leader.
As Obama lay bleeding and in pain, an Angel appeared.
Obama wept and said, "This is not what you promised me."
The Angel replied, "I told you there would be 72 VIRGINIANS waiting for you in Heaven. What did you think I said?"
The UY Scuti of galaxies. Or, a galaxy of galaxies.
Good one!
My god, it’s full of stars... (for you 2001 fans)
Thanks for that correction.
(Fermi was right.)
It also is a good measure of Dorkbama the Muslim’s mind (the smaller, of course) to the mind of an average dog.

God says the whole universe is about as wide as His hand.
But they each get two Senators, right?
If there’s intelligent life anywhere in the inner half of that thing, they may not know that there’s much of a Universe out there unless they’re to the point where they have some kind of foldspace travel.
I wonder what it looks like currently, since the view we have is over a billion years old.

...
That must have been when Chris Elliot was still on the show.
If intelligent life is common in the Universe, it should be there, and billions of years ahead of Earth.
Can you imagine Moore’s law applied over a billion years? Their video games must be incredible.
