Trump's attempt at a hostile takeover of the Republican Party has happened only because of the GOP's failure to address the issues -like illegal immigration - that concern voters. Trump has exposed the cowardice and lack of principles and coherence of the GOP. They have only themselves to blame.

Steyn’s point is that the two party uniparty American system is very much an aberration in the Western World.

Most Western democracies have between four and six parties.

Post-Communist Russia has five.

Its not written in the Constitution America must have only two.

Its telling that Independents now outnumber both Democrats and Republicans.

Most Americans are rightly left feeling the existing parties do not represent them or care about them.

One way or another, the American two party system is now on its last legs.
