From the link in my #7:

Windows 10's a different story. As I've explained repeatedly, Win10 is starting to collect data for the purpose of targeting ads -- not unlike Windows Live Messenger, years ago, and Google and Facebook and many others, for as long as they've been around. You should understand the privacy implications before you decide to upgrade (or not) to Windows 10. The fact that Windows 10 continues to leak information even after all the CEIP/Cortana/Bing settings have been shut off does not instill confidence.

I’m going to be upgrading shortly, but I’m also migrating back to Linux. Virtually all of the tools I use are supported by Linux now. Only my PCB design software is Windows ... it won’t run under Wine, so I’ll keep my Win10 install license just for that. Only reason I need Win10 is for that and some gaming stuff I enjoy from time to time.

I, personally, couldn’t care less about 99% of what they observe when it comes to my filthy web browsing life. It’s quite boring really. I don’t think I’ve ever bought one damn thing that was the result of some targeted ad on the internet.

What I do care about is any data collection related to politics.

After seeing what the IRS does to people these days, I don’t want any headaches over my criticism of those low lifes in DC if I go on a rant and Windows 10 reports my visits to FR back to the mothership and some punk in DC somehow gets access to that data. I get quite angry doing taxes ... I hate paying TurboTax money just to make it through the convoluted tax code each year and spending a couple of hours computing how much money those scummy filthmongers extort from me each year.

If I have to both spend time filling out tax forms each year and get audited just because I said some mean things about the “benevolent, all powerful, and life-producing” IRS on a political forum, I’ll succumb to nerd rage that will not be very healthy :-). I can’t stand dealing with any bureaucrats. Douglas Adams nailed bureaucrats with the introduction of the Vogons perfectly.
