Japan Industrial Partners bought up the VAIO platform in 2014 and started selling overseas in 2015. They are coming to the US soon and I think you can actually preorder VAIOs.
Good info there. Win 10 users with privacy concerns should change default setting from Full to Basic. Still doesn’t solve the issue completely, but helps. The most restrictive setting (security) can not easily be changed for home or pro users (only available in Enterprise and Education versions).
I have always, beginning with Windows XP, let Windows automatically install updates. Not once has that been a problem for me. Lucky? Probably.
Today I have 4 laptops upgraded from Windows 7/8.1 to 10. I had no issues at all, and I love Windows 10.
Background: I have been an IT professional/programmer/consultant for 35 years.
Though it baffles me (yes, I am aware of the privacy concerns; I personally have no concerns with that), I know many people (including some that I do consulting work for) don’t want to upgrade to Windows 10 and I respect that.
I am told that the following solution provided by Microsoft works ...
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3080351
... and a nice write-up about the KB3080351 (linked above):

Here is the website showing the Z platform. http://us.vaio.com/
They will have the S platform coming soon.
When you say supported, are you wondering when they will stop updating it, or when it will stop working? Or are you concerned with calling a technician and getting support? I have experience with operating systems all the way back to CP/M. I used DOS 3.1 when it was new, and all versions of Windows. I purposely have avoided using Windows Millennium Edition, Vista and 8.0/8.1, with great success. I have 8 computers running Windows 7, and am perfectly fine with XP which is no longer supported. XP works just fine in most cases. You can't get IE updated, but Firefox works just fine on it.
And in all this time, I may have spoken to a Customer Support rep from Microsoft maybe twice. I would say never, but I really don't remember, so I'll say a couple of times to maintain my honesty. Whether a version of Windows is "supported" is of little consequence. You have probably 8 years of Windows 7 left before it becomes completely obsolete. like Windows 98.
What happened to Sony? Everything they made was the best.
Seems like quite a detailed fix. For myself, I'll check my short list and hide the update when it reappears as long as it doesn't pop up every week.
H’mmmm, this is why my daughter asked me for the external hard drive to back up all her files last night.
I’ve seen faster snails go faster than his computer now. He’s 83 and I keep telling him not to click on stuff. He forgets or just disregards what I say.
Its basically unusable with tons of random pop ups and taking forever to load up anything.
I put my dad on Firefox and installed NoScript.
I have a windoze 7 virtual machine and the upgrade code thinks my “hardware” is “not supported” so not an issue for me. :)
I may try this and see if it helps. Thanks
.
Make sure your software absolutely supports Win 10 before upgrading. ‘They’ say it will but it won’t. Windows 10 so far, has cost me about $8000 in upgrade costs to bring my engineering software up to date. Yay microsoft.
Did you do a clean install after upgrading to W10? Makes a big difference when you clean out all the old stuff residing on the hard drive
I haven’t touched his computer...I just get to hear the cussin’ about it. LOL
The crux of the biscuit is that M$ expects its entire customer base to serve as QC testers in perpetuity. In the olden days, this largely was confined to who bought a new M$ OS before SP1 was released. The only change is now they expect we all of us to continue to being their unpaid lab rats for so long as we choose to use their product.
Thanks to CedarDave for the ping!!
Other than Sony Vegas and maybe a couple of other things, Linux can handle routine day to day stuff.
I have Ubuntu on the tower and mint for experimentation on my old lenovo.
I’m weak on really using linux and am looking at linux academy since I really don’t know what to do with it regarding more advanced stuff.
