Cruz: What We Are Seeing With North Korea is a 'Foreshadowing of Where We will Be With Iran'

Republican presidential candidate, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, answers a question during a Republican presidential primary debate hosted by ABC News at the St. Anselm College Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, in Manchester, N.H. (AP Photo/David Goldman)

(CNSNews.com) - Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), asked to respond to North Korea's test of an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the United States, called for an expanded missile defense capacity and a "hardened" electrical grid.

But first, he noted that President Bill Clinton relaxed sanctions against North Korea, just as President Obama has relaxed sanctions against Iran: "So, what we are seeing with North Korea is foreshadowing of where we will be with Iran."

At Saturday's Republican debate in New Hampshire, moderator Martha Raddatz asked Cruz how he would respond as commander in chief to the North Korean missile launch:

"Well, I would note initially, the fact that we're seeing the launch, and we're seeing the launch from a nuclear North Korea, is the direct result of the failures of the first Clinton administration. The Clinton administration led the world in relaxing sanctions against North Korea. Billions of dollars flowed into North Korea in exchange for promises not to build nuclear weapons. They took those billions and built nuclear weapons.

"And, I would note also the lead negotiator in that failed North Korea sanctions deal was a woman named Wendy Sherman who Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton promptly recruited to come back to be the lead negotiator with Iran. So, what we are seeing with North Korea is foreshadowing of where we will be with Iran."

Cruz said one of the first things the U.S. should do is expand its missile defense capacity: "We ought to put missile defense interceptors in South Korea. South Korea wants them.

"One of the real risks of this launch, North Korea wants to launch a satellite, and one of the greatest risks of the satellite is they would place a nuclear device in the satellite. As it would orbit around the Earth, and as it got over the United States, they would detonate that nuclear weapon and set of what's called an EMP, and electromagnetic pulse, which could take down the entire electrical grid on the Eastern seaboard, potentially killing millions.

"We need to harden the grid to defend ourselves, and we need missile defense to protect ourselves against North Korea."

Raddatz asked Cruz if he would have ordered the U.S. military to destroy North Korea's missile "preemptively on the launch pad."

"You know, at this point I'm not going to speculate on that without the intelligence briefing that any Commander in Chief would have, knowing what exactly is there," Cruz responded.

Raddatz shot back, saying Cruz has "talked tough about the Mideast" without intelligence briefings.

Wrong. "Actually, with respect, I have gotten the intelligence briefings on the Mideast," Cruz responded. "Those have been going on for many years. I haven't gotten the intelligence briefing tonight on what North Korea’s doing because I'm here in New Hampshire. When you're responding to an immediate incident, you need to know the intelligence of what's occurring.

"But what I was saying - look, it is qualitatively different dealing with a country once they have nuclear weapons. It's why you prevent them from getting nuclear weapons in the first place, because your hands are somewhat tied once they have nukes.

'It's why this Iranian nuclear deal is so catastrophic, and it’s why I’ve pledged, on the very first day in office, to rip to shreds this Iranian nuclear deal so we're not sitting here in five years, wondering what to do about an Iranian missile launch when they have nuclear weapons. The stakes are too high for that."

"Okay," Raddatz said. "Senator Cruz, I will say that missile has been sitting there for quite some time, and they have had eyes on it."

At that point, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) jumped in to clarify that "it is standard procedure of the United States to shoot down those missiles once launched if they pose a threat to civilians, land and ships."

Probably not far into the future.

You should have thought about that Senator, Cruz while you were voting for Corker Amendment.

I considered this the high point of the debate, substantively. The moderator was pissed Cruz was giving solid answers. Her contempt was dripping.

Well, that and Rubio and Trump getting slapped around by Christie and Yeb of all people. Pretty funny.

Meanwhile, Trump say this of Kim Jong Un:

"How many young guys - he was like 26 or 25 when his father died -- take over these tough generals, and all of a sudden ... he goes in, he takes over, and he's the boss," Trump said. "It's incredible. He wiped out the uncle, he wiped out this one, that one. I mean this guy doesn't play games. And we can"t play games with him."

Trump doesn't know what he'll do with North Korea, but it'll be something really great..really terrific.

The facts are, Obama was going to do the Iran deal without Congress. By having the Corker Bill, they got Obama to agree to allow Congress a vote on the Iran Deal. Since Congress has not approved the deal, the next President can nullify it. For some unexplained reason, Trump has said he would not shred the deal.

Thought you started this thread to be about my preferred candidate Ted Cruz and not another tired anti-Trump spiel. I was wrong. Bye for now.

More crap from a Trump supporter.

Senator Cruz did all he could do to fix the bill and to keep the bill from getting out of committee.

Once the GOP-E in the Senate refused to do the right thing, he was left with two choices:

1. A No vote, which if there were a majority of no votes, then there would be no control on what Obama could do.
2. A Yes vote, that gave some some control over what Obama could do.

Senator Cruz did the only honorable thing he could do, voted to control, however little it was, the damage that Obama could do.

“Trump doesn’t know what he’ll do with North Korea, but it’ll be something really great..really terrific.”

Or he’ll say something like . . . “I have plenty of friends in the Asian community, particularly North Koreans who came here legally and helped build my Atlantic City casino parking lot. I can help these people. I’m loved in the North Korean community in this country and I guarantee you . . . when I’m president we will win . . . at everything”.

Don’t forget Trump does well with the Koreans because he buys thousands of TVs for his hotels from them at least according to him.

This is where he gets in trouble with his mouth...

So much for bringing back American jobs when you are purchasing products in that amount from foreign companies.

But that is what the Mouth does.

It is time for voters to start thinking about the serious consequences of electing someone like Trump, who has no clue about foreign policy and defending our country.

Obviously, Ted Cruz has a grasp on foreign policy and the right temperament and judgment to handle the challenges facing us.

Kia and Hyundai do employ a lot of Americans . . . Ford announced today an EXPANSION of their production facilities in Mexico. Facts are a stubborn thing . . .

Kia Design Center America

The Kia Design Center America in Irvine, California, is located on a 22 acres (8.9 ha) corporate campus[5] with a $130 million initial investment,[5] the Irvine, California Kia Design Center was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill[5] and was completed in 2008, featuring 45 workstations and nine offices.[6]

The studio can model up to eight vehicles at once and includes a computerized milling machine that can quickly create full-size models.[6] Work and presentation areas include a 2-D presentation room, “a kind of darkroom in virtual reality where up to three full-size digital images can be projected for evaluation and comparison.”[6]

Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia (KMMG)[edit]

United States: Officially Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia (KMMG), Kia’s plant in West Point, Georgia, is capable of producing 300,000 cars annually[21] for the North American and global markets. At an initial cost of $1 billion (US)[21] the facility comprises 2.2 million-square-feet[21] on more than 2,200 acres (8.9 km2) of land[21] near Interstate 85.[22] The facility currently manufactures the second generation Sorento and the 2011–present Kia Optima.[23]

In addition to four main areas (stamping, welding, paint and assembly), the facility also includes a transmission shop, module shop and a two-mile (3 km) test track.[21] The assembly area features more than a half mile of height-adjustable conveyors and wood flooring.

Production began with the second generation Kia Sorento on November 16, 2009.[21]

Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (commonly called HMMA) is an automobile factory in Montgomery, Alabama. It was incorporated as a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company of South Korea on April 12, 2002. Construction completed in June 2004, with the official start of production beginning in May 2005.[1] The official grand opening ceremony on May 20, 2005, was attended by former President of the United States, George H. W. Bush and Hyundai Motor Group Chairman, Chung Mong-koo. It employed approximately 3000 workers in 2013.[1] Hyundai announced that the initial investment in the plant as $1.1 billion but the current investment is $1.7 billion. [2] In May 2011, HMMA announced a $173 million investment to increase the capacity of the engine assembly plant.[3]

When it was built, the plant was expected to generate an additional 5,500 jobs and $500 million in investments from suppliers. Many of the suppliers were already in the region supplying the Mercedes, Honda and Toyota plants in the state. The success of the HMMA plant and the availability of local suppliers led Hyundai to invest over $1 billion in a new Kia Motors plant in West Point, Georgia. The West Point Kia plant is just over the Alabama state line, less than 85 miles away from the Montgomery plant. The two plants are directly linked by an interstate highway. Through the years some production has been shifted between the two plants. For example, Kia engines are made in the HMMA plant while some SUV production was moved from Hyundai to the West Point Kia plant.

As of the end of 2013, the HMMA plant was running in excess of its 300,000 listed capacity, due to high demand for Hyundai automobiles.

No spin, just the truth, something that some TRUMP (PRAISE BE TO HIS NAME!) supporters seem to be lacking in.
