Stephen Curry put together one of his finest performances Wednesday night, scoring 51 points on 68% shooting while going 11-for-16 from 3-point range, as the Warriors beat the Wizards 134-121.
Even more impressive is that Curry accomplished this feat relatively quickly â he played just 36 minutes and dumped in 25 points in the first quarter alone.
The climax of his game-opening explosion came on a broken play off an inbounds that Curry turned into another dazzling highlight.
After a Draymond Green layup, the Wizards inbounded the ball quickly to try to push the pace. As they got the ball to John Wall, Curry managed to tip the pass, creating a scramble for the loose ball. Wizards forward Jared Dudley dived for it, momentarily stealing it from Curry, but as he did so, he popped the ball into the air. Curry then grabbed it, collected himself, turned around, and took a shot.
And he did it from 28 feet out.
No other player has this kind of license to shoot. But Curry has earned it.
As ESPN Stats noted, Curry shot 6-for-8 from shots from 27 feet out Wednesday night, and he is 50-for-99 (50.5%) on those shots for the season. The rest of the NBA is shooting 24% on such attempts.
It has been said before, but the NBA simply hasn't seen a player like this. Curry's shooting ability alone is historic, but when combined with his ball-handling and his range, it creates a one-of-a-kind player. As former NBA coach Doug Collins noted on the ESPN broadcast during the game, Curry's balance and his ability to calmly collect the ball then shoot it shows off a different kind of athleticism than the NBA is used to seeing.
Curry dazzled all night, showing off all of the above-mentioned skills.

It’s good to be a Warriors fan these days.
Ervin “Magic” Johnson is better.
RE: Ervin “Magic” Johnson is better.
A better outside shooter? I don’t think so.
A case can be made maybe for Jerry West, Larry Bird or Reggie Miller.
I’m a Laker fan, but I can’t help cheering for the Warriors. Stephen Curry is unreal. That entire team is just amazing to watch. That 72-10 Bulls record is coming up real soon.
Jack Marin.
I like the kid. He comes from a great family ( his father, Dell Curry was also a deadly three point scorer during his day ). He’s also a devout Christian who gave Christ the glory when he won the 2015 MVP.
Not only are they a great team, but a class act, starting with Curry. I look forward to every game.
Rick Barry.
Wow!
All around, better than Curry.
Better than West
Better than Miller
EJ and Bird both had that indomitable WILL to win and real desire to win at every cost. I rate Magic over Larry by a small margin and, in my lifetime, they are first and second.
Magic ^willed^ that his team would win in a high-stakes encounter...even on the play-ground (of which I am familiar) his DESIRE was for ^^his team^^ to win...even if he had to go down the fence-line and pick 4 unproven schlubs. (Note the emphasis on HIS TEAM). Like Bird, he worked to make his team win.
I know. I’ve played across from Ervin before (uhhh, once). Larry Bird is second only because I never faced him in the yard...(I was a point guard).
To this day when Larry Bird goes out onto the floor for some practice shooting seasoned NBA pros stop and watch, awestruck.
We need an opinion from a real fan.
Curry is flipping ridiculous and I agree that he might be the best outside shooter of all time.
Figures that my biggest window for a Cleveland championship has the greatest outside shooter in history staring right back through it. Guess I should be used to it after running into Michael Jordan, John Elway, and Pedro Martinez.
I’ll never root for an injury, but Curry’s going to have to roll his ankle or something for Cleveland to have a chance.
Cleveland???
Hah.
Worriers are gonna have to get past San Antonio first.
~~~ Spurs in 7.
I’m boycotting the NBA until they get more white players.
Spectacular shooters?
Pete Maravich
Him too.
[[A case can be made maybe for Jerry West, Larry Bird or Reggie Miller.]]
All great players- Dr J, bob cousey, pistol pete maravich, as well- too many to recall-
Pistol Pete was the best passer the game has ever seen....No one since him has been close. Many great shooter so i won’t comment on that...including Pete.
