Since the Zika virus has been detected in my area, I was concerned about my dogs. Here's what a quick search revealed.

I didn't do an extensive search, but I'd welcome additional info if someone has.

Okay, what do you call it when a chicken contracts the Zika virus?

As long as you don’t plan on vaccinating your dog with the Tdap, you should be fine. Zika has NOTHING to do with microcephaly. http://yournewswire.com/is-zika-virus-or-the-dtap-vaccine-causing-birth-defects-in-brazil/

OK, calm down, first off. The virus has been identified since the 1940s, and is known in Africa, where it originated and has also been found in Malaysia. It doesn’t have a major effects on the infected person and is basically just a mild cold. Some people don’t even know they’ve had it.

Any virus can cause deformities if contracted in the first three months of pregnancy. The microcephaly hysteria was based on one state in Brazil where there was a higher than average incidence of microcephaly. It is not an inevitable effect of this virus, but certainly viral exposure is related to birth defects.

The thing to do is not to eliminate the population, but eliminate the vector (the mosquito) and develop a vaccine.

TMI, but thanks just the same. I only wanted to know if I had to take extra measures to protect my dogs from mosquitos. The info in the blog pretty much answered any concerns I had. I figured others might have the same concerns, so I posted the link.

Dub’s done got on my last nerve today! The compost bin
“door” at the bottom spilled out and all sorts of partly
decomposed orange peelings and other yukky looking stuff
spilled out. Dub got into it and was picking out and
eating what she wanted out of it. - I finally just threw
up my hands and said, “ALLRIGHT! Eat that yukky stuff! See
if I care! Only don’t come whining to me if you get a belly
ache!” - Fang is out of commission and can’t bend over
much; so Twinkie has to clean stuff up! The heifer!! Dub,
not Twinkie is the heifer!!

Any woman who would take a vaccine when she’s pregnant, is insane.
