Tesla has a niche that is unrelated to fuel prices - it's technological edge and buying experience. No dealers to put up with, pioneering technology, and OTA updates to system software to keep the car you buy from getting outdated by the next model year.

If those aren't enough to keep Tesla afloat - well, tough bananas. I'll enjoy cheaper gas.

Exactly. The people that are dropping $90,000 on an electric luxury/sports sedan are not concerned with whether gas is $2 a gallon or $10 a gallon.

It might impact plans for the more consumer oriented Tesla model in the works. However, from what I've seen (I've actually driven a Tesla S) and read on the engineering aspects I'd still bet on Tesla. Tesla has several key technological advantages over any other electric out there. A couple of the major ones being range and recharging time. Funny to see "miles per hour" used in the context of "miles (of range) per hour (of charging)" :-)
