An Italian actor has been left in a coma after a scene that involved his character being lynched went horribly wrong in front of a live audience.
According to a report on The Times, Raphael Schumacher, 27, was accidentally strangled by the rope around his neck and lost consciousness while appearing in the play 'Mirages' at the Teatro Lux in Pisa. He's said to be "seriously ill".
Police sealed off the theatre and have launched an investigation into how the stunt went wrong. Schumacher should have been stood on a box and wearing a body harness to ensure he was never at risk from strangulation, but it appears something went seriously awry.
A member of the audience is said to have raised the alarm when they noticed Mr Schumacher's body trembling.

I really wonder about the world these days...
I saw a performance of the opera Billy Budd that ends with a hanging and I remember thinking, that actor is taking a risk. Even with a safety harness. I went back for a second performance two days later and they had somebody else playing the role. A last-minute substitution and unknown. I always wondered about that.
Michael J Fox was just about killed in one of the back to the future movies when he back in time to the Old West.
I never knew that. I guess it’s largely unknown because Michael chose not to sue.
As I got older and started to see a lot of youtube and interviews and such, I had to change my mind in a lot of ways
The pace is gruelling ... I'D never do it .... I'd dig a 50 ft ditch 3 ft deep, 2 ft wide with a teaspoon first
That's just making the movie ... then all that personal appearance bullshit ...
And SOME of those people sound downright intelligent when intelligently interviewed
Story appearing on Castle/Law & Order in 5,4,3...
I was thinking of a “Monk” episode. I think Columbo did a similar one as well.
I almost went into a coma after being subjected to the horrendous writing in this piece.
Loved that show.
Unfortunately, body harnesses do not always work as planned:

What gets me is with a little clever engineering, why would one even consider using an actual noose?!? What are these people, infants?!? So many ways to work out an effective portrayal without killing someone.
I recall Castle doing an episode regarding a choking incident at a live cooking contest (think Top Chef) broadcast in fronts of millions.
It was a deliberate poisoning of some sort.
I think it was “Castle” (that’s the one with the husband-and-wife detective duo)...
