Get an excellent Antivirus app. I’m currently using Macaffee it came free.

Malware Bytes is a good free malware fix too.

Make doubly sure that their main everyday user account is not an admin account. That’s really the cause of the problem probably. Set up a separate admin account using the same password, or another password if you don’t want them to have access it.

That way they should be prompted if being attacked.

So far I’m pretty impressed with McAfee comprehensive approach. It checks about everything that comes from the web and really pretty much takes care of itself. Get their best package (about $50 per year) because you won’t be there but your folks will have to work pretty hard to get around McAfee. A password manager is also an excellent idea if they do their banking and stuff.

I use enterprise McAfee and it doesn’t do very well.

Plain old Windows Defender has caught more pests.

Avast is OK and Vipre probably still is.

That is an excellent point. I think I’ll set up a new everyday user account for them before I return their laptop.
