Reporter Amanda Peacher from Oregon Public Broadcasting made an unusual discovery at the Bureau of Land Management Headquarters near Burns late Sunday night.
Flying under Old Glory was a Gadsden Flag. Peacher posted a picture on Twitter. Some local residents also noticed and called law enforcement. By Monday morning the Gadsden Flag was down.
The flag was an apparent sign of protest in Harney County against the federal government's control of land.
Hundreds of patriots gathered outside the Harney County Courthouse at Noon yesterday for a protest that lasted four hours or more.
Local residents as well as Pacific Patriot Network members were on hand to demand the resignation of local officials seen as tools of the federal government and to demand the arrest of those members of law enforcement responsible for last Tuesday's death of Robert "LaVoy" Fincicum. Many in the crowd carried pictures of Finicum.
The signatures of over 200 hundred Harney County residents were given on a petition bearing those demands and others.
Some local residents were on hand to 'support law enforcement' and they got into a shouting match with the patriots.
One of the members of that group identified himself as a US Forest Service technician when interviewed by reporter Molly Young of "OregonLive".
Of the 2,000 people employed in Harney County, 240 work for the federal government and 750 work for the state and local governments.
Meanwhile Cliven Bundy sent a notarized and certified letter to Harney County Sheriff Dave Ward, Oregon Governor Kate Brown and President Barack Obama calling for continued 'possession' of the "Harney County Resource Center", the name given by the group that occupied the wildlife refuge. In addition the letter calls for the removal of all federal and state law enforcement from Harney County.
Ammon Bundy, Cliven's son, is seeking release from jail with an appeal to a federal judge today. Also appealing is broadcaster Pete Santilli, arrested a week ago today separately from Ammon Bundy and the main group.
There are still four people at the wildlife refuge, refusing to come out until they are assured of no prosecution.
Weren’t the “occupiers” of years gone by furnished with porta potties, food and clothing?? And the use of any damn park they wanted to occupy??
Why doesn’t he head up there and join the four that are still holed up?
When did it become ILLEGAL to fly the Gadsden Flag???
When is it illegal? When it becomes an issue with the goosestepping thugs that are running this country!
Some of us are sick and tired of both the BLM and the Bundy renegades. I call for a law and order militia to move in and claim it.
Why Oregon, a Left Coast state?
They came there because of the Hammonds who were sent back to federal prison for a second time for the same offense of setting a backfire to stop a brush fire causing federal land to be burned.
There was a rally in Burns on behalf of the Hammond’s on January 2nd.
Then Ammon Bundy and his associates decided to occupy the wildlife refuge afterwards and begin a process to return the federally controlled land to the people of Harney County.
There are a few of us behind enemy lines.
Well I know that much. I guess to be more specific, why choose to stand the ground in a state that is overall not real friendly to the cause? If you want to win the war, you have to pick and choose your battles.
If you are waging such a campaign, it seems like you should wage it in an area where you can get a lot of support from the people that live there. This is something Mao understood.
The eastern section of Oregon is more Independents and Republicanss, with a handful of imported liberals. Tougher and more isolated living over this way, so the Liberals prefer the cities in the valley.
Much of the problems began because the journalists starting out with the initial reports, are mostly all Liberals, so the stories were all slanted in that direction, and leading the viewers, and those were the voices heard loudest. Those stories got the Liberals screaming and squealing from their cushy couches, which brought in the Governor screaming to the Feds to take them out. And......... you know how that worked out.
There was a big rally in Burns yesterday with hundreds there supporting LaVoy and wanting answers for the shooting, and supporting the Constitution. There was also a handful protesting the protesters, but the news focus was mostly focusing on the protesters of the supporters.
Funny thing I see through all of this, is the calm well spoken response (for the most part) from the supporters of the Constitution. But the screaming in your face response from the Liberals, loaded with snarkasm. It’s been an interesting ride. And incredibly sad:(
It’s a poorly conceived operation with no upside.
They would do better to pull back and file a civil suit over a wrongful death.
That would get them far more publicity.
It’s a poorly conceived operation with no upside. Cliven Bundy is wrong, and maybe grief is speaking through him right now.
