Very interesting, but I would not have put Super Bowl 25 at the top of that list. I’m a NYG fan, but there’s something about a game ending with a missed field goal that takes away some of the historical value of it.
I agree about that Ravens-Giants game being so far down.
bttt
I’ll admit I don’t remember it, but I agree with you.
It wasn’t a very exciting game. In fact, it was anticlimactic because it was basically over before halftime.
I have the idea from the list that the author is in his thirties or so. He’s not quite sure we had color photography in the ‘60’s and ‘70’s.
And I can guarantee you that a lot of hard-core fans and sports media people see that team as forever tarnished because of Mike Ditka's decision to take Walter Payton out of the game and have that fat slob Refrigerator carry the ball for a touchdown late in the game.
Too many recent games in the top 10 for my taste.
See post 8. All “best of” whatever lists today are heavily skewed toward recent times because writers don’t remember or care to try to research past their lifetimes.
True, but they have gotten better recently after a streak where there were a lot of blowouts. As I said earlier, I think the author is pretty young, hasn’t seen them all.
I see John Clayton supposedly wrote this list. He should know better.
The author is 61.
I don’t have a lot of interest in this SB, as I really don’t care for either QB or team.
My fav QBs decided they would rather be home and watch on the big screen TVs than have to be playing, what with those SB rings being so big and gawky and heavy to wear.
Wide Right has to be at the top of the list. It’s one of the few SBs where more people know who lost than won.
Recent SBs have been more exciting. Most of the 21st century SBs have been single score game, a far cry the Super Bore era of blowouts. Parity has its benefits.
Maybe we just have different standards. When I put together a list of the great games in any sport, one of the most important standards I use is that the game has to be well played. A game that ends on a missed field goal — as opposed to a game-ending field goal or (preferably) touchdown — just doesn’t make the cut for me.
Yep, us die hard Bears fans were stunned when da coach made that choice.
Loved our man ‘sweetness’, still can’t believe he’s gone :(
The Superbowl shuffle will live on, we still laugh about it!
