It's as Russian as borscht, but the AK-47 will soon be made in Florida.
The weapon of choice for guerrillas, terrorists and the soldiers of armies around the world, some 100 million AK-47s have been made in Russia since it rolled off the line in 1947. But now, the company's U.S. arm is planning to manufacture the gun at a plant in Pompano Beach, Fla.
"An iconic firearms platform, revered the world over, with a history of intrigue and controversy, now reborn as the new American Kalashnikov," the company said in a statement.
"Whether you are a sport shooter, hunter, protecting family, home and country, the new Kalashnikov USA firearms will exceed your expectations of how a firearm should perform."

What say you about the AK?
To me $1,800 is a bit much to pay for any AK-47 variant.
I’d be happier with 3 $600 models.
The AK was designed to be used by people with very little training in marksmanship or maintenance.
I don’t like the AK-47. Its jumps up when fired making follow up shots nearly impossible. I prefer the smooth operation of the AR-15.
The Bulgarian SA-M5 milled 5.56 AK I had would group as good as the service grade Ar-15s I had.
I traded it for the stamped version and lost a little accuracy. I should have put a sight block on the SA-M5, because my eyes were getting too old for iron sights.
This might not just be an AK clone. They also make a line of shot guns and hunting rifles. Never fired the hunting guns (called Tigers), but the Saiga shotgun shoots very well. Points naturally, shoots well, and draws a lot of looks at the skeet range (three rounds only).
Buddy had one, and I loved it.
I have and like a few of each; I also have an FNH SCAR in .308.
It is like debating which is a better tool, a hammer or a screwdriver. It depends on whether it is a nail or a screw.
Love it. Up to 150 yards (I'm old, mediocre eyesight) I will probably grab it first.
The grass is rarely greener on the other side esp this one.
Having BOTH a good AR-15 AND a good AK-47 in one’s stable is an absolute necessity in my book.
Different animals completely, but both great shooting fun with different strengths & weaknesses.......and you can use the AK for deer hunting in places where you can’t (and shouldn’t) use a .223/5.56.......
Really enjoyed both before the boat accident............
I’ll take the AK platform over the AR any day.
Reason: the AR platform is built to tight tolerances, wonderful for accuracy, a royal pain in the ass if you’re in the dirt and mud. My memories of the M-16 jamming constantly were so bad, that when I got to my Reserve unit and I received the rare chance to choose which weapon to be issued: the choices were the ‘16, ‘14, M-1, or M3A1. I chose the M3A1, nothing against the M-1 or the ‘14.
Which is why, in the case of general social breakdown and disorder, you would want to hand out a few dozen of these to your friends and neighbors to secure the neighborhood.
I think of it as the Timex of carbines. Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'.
I still regret not getting an AK when they were still relatively inexpensive. I do enjoy a good SKS, though.
Teamobama going to let it happen?
I really liked shooting (and drilling) with the M-14, a great 7.62 platform.
Yep. Those 154 grain soft points are very similar ballistically to the 30-30.
Unfortunately I have no idea of the proper way to shoot or dress a deer.
My first thought too.
You notice the gun isn't going to be manufactured in a Blue state?
You got to choose?
Can't gripe too much, I got the M-14 myself. Better in the hard stuff than the 16 any day.
The AK is good. Would be improved with a 20-22” barrel, and a bayonet lug on all models.
