Elmurray Billy Bookman was cutting hair at his barber station, the second chair from the door, when two masked men, one wielding a pistol and the other carrying a shotgun, entered Next Up Barber & Beauty, he said.
Minutes later, Bookman and one of his customers drew their weapons as the robbers were taking money from customers and employees. They fired shots that left one of the suspects dead and sent another on the run just before 7 p.m. Friday.
The kids were crying, hollering, and their parents were hollering, Bookman said. I think (the suspects) were getting kind of frustrated. They started putting their hands on some of the customers.
About 20 people, including several women and children, were at the barbershop on Fort Jackson Boulevard. [...]
Bookman said he just wanted to protect the crowd of people inside the shop. ... [MORE at link]

But, but, but, guns are never used defensively....
1. Don’t forget to double tap!
2. The robbers were good kids and aspiring rappers...
Yes, ALL the people in the video indeed ARE what you suspect.
I saw the video.
Teens?
Well... I didn’t post so much for THAT, but both the barber and customer were reported to be lawful CWP holders and their reported statements indicate their intent to defend the defenseless. Plus a stolen gun was recovered. I see it more as good guys vs bad guys, but I recognize your right to see what you want, too.
Idiot. An armed robbery and a shop owner and customer getting the better of the two robbers has nothing to do with their race. Lots of white businesses have had shootouts with robbers.
Yeah really. If this country needs anything it’s more upstanding black citizens with CCW permits. Good on the barber and customer!
But of course we know the sad fact that, being clustered mainly in Dem-run metropolitan areas, they are prevented from doing so, driving up the crime rates in those areas. For their own good, of course. /s
I met a black man at a gun show who was trying to get people to join a pro-gun organization and I said to him, “I have a problem with black folks and guns.” He looked at me warily and asked, “What would that be?” I said, “The problem as I see it is that not enough good black folks owned guns”. He agreed.
What does that matter if they were on the barber's premises?
Ha ha, that’s awesome. You’re braver than I!
In almost every instance it’s the bandits who get to choose where & when their violent acts will take place and the victims are left to respond as they can, given their preparation (or lack thereof).
Perhaps the police recognize that the barber and the customer took the necessary steps to acquire and maintain a CWP to be vigilant within the law, contrasting to what could otherwise be portrayed as them acting as pistol-packing vigilantes, themselves looking for someone to shoot.
I think it gives the actors a special tangible legitimacy to which the police can give reference. And I believe the barber and customer further the cause of responsible gun ownership & exercise of rights that could be particularly beneficial by example.
