It is not uncommon for presidential candidates to pose as hard-core liberals or conservatives to appease their party’s activist base and then temper their views in the general election to win over moderates and undecided votes.
But Donald Trump seems to be doing that before a single vote has been cast in the GOP primaries.

I’m amazed at the disrespect for Free Republic that IBD ed writer shows to our site and to freepers. Simple courtesy would expect at least some kind of response to some poster over the years.
It’s a huge demonstration of us getting used.
Let’s shift to the third dimension and see if the view is different. For starters, tell me what you learned about all the other candidates today.

Trump sucked the oxygen out of the room. Again. And the issue - as always - is something we can jabber about forever. It is jabber-ready by design, so the media and the public will have no time and no brain cycles left to consider his competition.
Admit it - you already think the competition on the Republican side has narrowed to Trump versus Trump. If he stumbles, he loses. If he doesn’t, he wins. But the other candidates and all of their money will not change anything. The presidency is 100% in Trump’s hands to win or lose.
And he hasn’t stumbled (in the 3rd dimension of persuasion) in six months of continuous media attention.
Now keep in mind that one of Trump’s signature moves involves creating situations in which he has two or more paths to win, and no paths to lose. He wins AT THE START by picking his battles.

Absolutely brilliant move by Trump. It will DOMINATE the news cycle for at least 24 hours. Trump leads the media by their nose ring wherever he wants them to go. That is what he means when he says he’ll get along and work with Pelosi and democrats. It’s a textbook example of leadership. We haven’t seen this kind of leadership for so long many - even here on FR - don’t recognize it.
I would like to see what kind of deals he makes with Pelosi
Trump gets:
The Wall
His tax plan
deregulation of business
better trade deals
and the military to destroy ISIS
Pelosi gets:
A gay pride parade in San Francisco
That is how he gets along with Pelosi.....

He has the skill to fight back rather than being on his knees and groveling like Republicans always do during elections. I like it.
The thing with deals is that sometimes they fall through and then you move on to the next quickly leaving the losers in your dust.
