Me and a buddy trapped a possum in a steel trap. We then shot it five times with a .22. Head and chest. It took a while and finally died.

Didn’t know that about Possums.

And I too had a skunk hang around. It use to sit around my out door table with the cat waiting for her food. Never sprayed anything thank goodness.

Possums were a rather benign presence. We were just never able to catch the stray cats because they always managed to get in the traps first.

Hard to complain about his aim. Head shot and a torso shot with a crossbow? Possums are just tough SOBs.

Possum blood has an unbelievable clotting factor.

Well. A possum once fell into our compost bin and was
just covered in gook. I poured a pitcher of plain warm
water over him and scooped him out with a pitchfork and
released him into the woods. - If they get hold of your
cats, they will tear a cat all to pieces. Brutus pays
attention and watches her back.

I’ll bet my husband has killed well over 300 squirrels out
here. They get in his pear trees and eat every pear they
can stuff in their pieholes. I hear BOOM! and the buzzards
fly in for a meal happy as larks to get something besides
the roadkill they usually have.

I didn’t either until not that long ago.

I wish skunks couldn’t carry rabies. If they’re not startled, they’re fine (but they’ll either steal eggs or kill chickens. I’m not sure which. Just know that it’s a bad thing if they get into a chicken coop) We had one out of about 4 that was a little bigger than the others & was almost black on white. Pretty thing.

Possums are very benign. Which is why I got so indignant that someone would abuse them. Course I don’t think anybody should abuse anything or anyone (lol okay. maybe excepting lefties) It’s weak.

Tell me about stray cats. We’re overrun right now. Two of them we would keep, I guess, but there are another 5 or 6 that just have to go. One of those is either real fat or pregnant.

If you’re gonna kill; be merciful. Kill quick or not at all.

That’s what finally got me to get rid of them. All my fine pears, peaches apricots and apples would get taken by the tree rats. They’d take a couple of bites and leave 90% behind.

Can’t shoot them here in the ‘burbs with a regular firearm, so I bought an accurate and powerful 22 pellet gun. The first one I nailed ran back up our fence then promptly expired in our PETA kook neighbor’s yard. The last thing I needed was her finding a plugged squirrel on her property, so I had to quickly cobble together a carcass retriever. I went back to trapping after that little episode.

The shooter failed in his effort to obtain supper. And lost two bolts in the bargain.

My dog cornered one in our garage behind some shelves. I did not want to use the .22 because of the cement block behind it, so I grabbed the trusty old Crossman pump BB gun. After 5-6 point blank shots into it’s head, it had enough and strolled out of the garage and headed for the woods.

shot in the head and torso

Not sure the term “torso” is used to describe the anatomy of a marsupial. Pretty awful writing here, at any rate.
