Every January, Glassdoor publishes its list of the best jobs of the year. For 2016, the top spot goes to data scientist.
"It isn't a big surprise to see data scientist at No. 1 this year because it's one of the hottest and fastest growing jobs we're seeing right now," says Dr. Andrew Chamberlain, Glassdoor's chief economist. "Since all companies have an online presence these days, they all need people who know how to manage and store data that helps them make better business decisions, compared to years ago when businesses didn't have data management at their fingertips to review and analyze to help them drive business forward. I expect this to continue to be a hot job for several years to come, too."
Glassdoor's Best Jobs in America report identifies careers with the highest overall "job score," which is determined by weighting three factors equally: earning potential (median annual base salary), career opportunities rating, and number of job openings.
For a job title to be considered, it had to receive at least 75 salary reports and 75 career opportunities ratings shared by US-based employees over the past year. The number of job openings per job title represents active job listings on Glassdoor as of January 8, 2016.
"When making any job decision, we know that job seekers consider earning potential, career opportunities, and hiring opportunity -- and that's exactly what we look at for this report to determine the top jobs in America for 2016," Chamberlain explains. "There's something for every job seeker in this report, and what's interesting is that employers across all industries are looking to fill many of these jobs."
Here are the 25 best jobs in America right now:

as long as the “data” corresponds with “science” that has been settled by consensus...
ne c’est pas?
Oh, BTW, check my tagline...
Shocked to see that assistant to the traveling secretary of the New York Yankees isn’t on the list.
Coast Guard land guy!
Tax Manager is number 2.
IF we ever get a flat tax or fair tax his job will be gone. I’m sure he is pretty safe for a long time.
After 25+ years in software I can tell you it sucks compared to 10+ years ago.
RE: Shocked to see that assistant to the traveling secretary of the New York Yankees isnât on the list.
I heard that Vandelay Industries is a great place to work... as a Latex Salesman.
That actually surprised me.
I’m retired. Best job evah.
Aircraft Dispatcher Duty Manager.(No, not really, this job will kill me..)
lol...
But the great hours make up for the crappy pay, right??
The top 25 appear to be mainly paper shufflers. These are people wholly interchangable.
The ENDANGERED 25 appear to be the very people who build the world we live in and keep it operating. Without many of these jobs, your car won’t start OR run, the lights are out, the food has spoiled, and you may be walking to the 27th floor of the building to see your doctor.
So many of the “traditional” trades are vanishing and those in need are looking further and further away to get things done.
I’m on the endangered list as a WATCHMAKER. Yet, I have watches brought in or mailed in from across the country. People want their precious timepieces to run, and are not interested in a NEW watch, just because it is a super hi-tech shortlived marvel of technology.
Without the people who keep your world running, you have a lot of problems
My advice to anyone is to develop and knowledge and skills portfolio that is similar to a financial one, have different skills across different areas, because odds are in order to make a living you are going to have to do several different things that may be completely unrelated during your working years.

Was on the endangered list as a commercial fisherman - a species that is nearly extinct and the Feds are working on eliminating the few vestiges remaining - same for farmers, ranchers, loggers, miners ... and with out these you starve and die. Food grows in the supermarket, you know.
But then paper shufflers are happy as long as they can shuffle and collect the big bucks to live the lavish life style they hope to achieve. Eating happens in restaurants and fast food joints - where the food comes from, who grew or killed it does not matter. Reprocessed human waste works fine for them as long as it looks and smells like the food it pretends to be.
Seems like several of these are new euphemisms for similar jobs. Fancy new job title so your company just HAS to have one! Hire ME!
Kinda like the Fashion Designer for the Emperor’s New Clothes?
“Data Scientist” - Really? Back in the old days before being swamped with their duties as Grant Application Writer, Conference Attendee or Sign-Me-Up-For-Consensus promoter, I thought ALL scientists worked with data and the analysis thereof.
“UX designer”
That’s what I started as in a mold and die shop. Then worked up to aircraft engineer (flight controls). I quit to start my own business.
But in the age of Obama the best job is FUNEMPLOYMENT!!! There are people who have been getting unemployment checks his entire reign.
