Charge dismissed for mom whose 1-year-old was beaten to death by 8-year-old

A judge this morning dismissed a reckless manslaughter charge against a Birmingham woman who had left her one-year-old daughter in the care of five other small children while she went out to a biker club. One of those children is now charged with intentionally killing the girl.

The Jefferson County District Attorney's Office, however, could still present the case to a grand jury for possible indictment against the mother of the girl.

Jefferson County District Court Judge Shelly Watkins refused to forward the reckless manslaughter charge against Katerra Lewis, 26, to a grand jury after hearing arguments from her attorney and testimony from a Birmingham homicide detective.

Overcharge and lose. I’m sure there are dozens of crimes this woman is actually guilty of, perhaps they should have charged her with some of them, instead of reaching for something to grab publicity.

Neglect charges no question but is everyone overlooking the fact that one of her kids is an out of control murderer who beat a baby to death?! Psychotic from birth? What kind of monsters did she produce? They should all be tested for mental abnormalities . Odds are they will be big problems later.

I don’t think the 8-year-old is her child. There seem to be multiple adults women sharing a house with multiple children. In the article “One of the women, who was the mother or guardian of the 8-year-old, declined to talk to police...”

Thug breeders. Both women left their kids alone. And we wonder where young criminals come from! Whichever alley cat birthed the murderous 8 yr old hardly matters. They were being raised as a litter by subhuman government breeders who were both out looking for more babydaddies. Those kids were born doomed. The women should be sterlized and incarcerated for child neglect and the men who bred them should be as well. Doesnt Alabama have laws against child neglect and reckless endangerment? I don’t understand NO charges. Don’t black lives matter? And as for the murderer: what kind of brain, what kind of feral rage does an 8 yr old have to attack and kill a toddler? He should definitely be sterlized because we all know he will be on the streets eventually.

I don’t understand the wiring of a mother who would leave toddlers in the care of young children. I was so naturally protective of my children. Protecting and uplifting them came above all else in life. Which was a huge switch for me! My mother was so relieved.
