Windows 8 users should immediately get themselves onto Windows 8.1, at which point -- if you want to -- you can upgrade to Windows 10.

When I buy a computer I know it has a limited life span. I do not attempt to keep upgrading it.
Like a car, I will run it until it dies. Then get another one.
Right now I have four computers in my house. They are cheap and disposable. I keep my important stuff on external hard drives (which I back up).
I don’t think I have ever called technical support for help.

I just switched to an os that doesn’t try to revolutionize the way I use my computer.

Meh. I’ve been on Win8 for a while. Sucked when I first got it, but once I had ClassicShell on it, it wasn’t too bad. I don’t do updates often, and when I do, it’s only the critical security ones. Never had any big issues with it, don’t see any point in wasting gigs of space to do all the updates

Just bought a used laptop (with Win7 on it).. was able to download Linux and the install took less than 5 minutes :D
Up and running smoothly ;^)
Wiped the Win completely off of the HD.

Or just don’t use IE. Or use IE, they aren’t deleting the old ones, they just aren’t supporting them anymore. People have this hallucinatory concept of what EOL means, it doesn’t actually kill the product, it just means you’re on your own.

Never liked Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 was only slightly better. Full screen apps with no windows, mysterious swiping from edges of screen to do random things, etc. Yuk. I guess I'm one of the rare fans of the metro tiles, although for a traditional deskside/desktop machine I much prefer the Windows desktop user interface with picture backgrounds and shortcuts.
Windows 10 is another story. I like it quite a bit - sort of a "best of" Win8.1 and Win7 combined. I upgraded my Win8.1 laptop and all 4 Win7 desktops in my house to Windows 10 without any issues. Improvements all around.
Edge is OK, but I still mostly use Pale Moon, which upgraded from Win7 to Win10 along with everything else without a hitch. The nice default windows desktop is still there from Win7 (returned from Win8.1), the cool tiles show up in the start menu now instead (a colorful, active touch), and everything runs in actual windows again!
