Japan is establishing a new intelligence operation to gather information on and monitor terrorist organizations worldwide. This will involve sharing information with foreign countries. Japan does not have much crime, or terrorism locally, Japan has so far avoided Islamic terrorist violence partly because Japan has virtually no Moslems. About one in 1,200 people in Japan are Moslem. Like other foreign populations Moslems (most of them foreign born) stand out and are watched carefully by police and Japanese, just like every other group of gaijin (non-Japanese) in residence. As a result there have been no problems with Islamic terrorism, or crime in general. Japan has some of the lowest crime rates in the world, although some of this is due to police reclassifying crimes (murders as suicides) when they can get away with it. Even with that, Japan is very safe compared to other countries

I spent a lot of time stationed in and deployed to Honshu and the Ryukus and admire the Japanese society and their people. That said they are undoubtedly the most homogenous, even racist society I’ve ever had privilege to experience. It has served them well since the Middle Ages.

This is long, LONG overdue.
There are some misconceptions that there are formal LAWS against Muslims in Japan, however the cultural norms against them are EXTREMELY strong.
They can rent and own property, posess Korans in foeign languages, however this is all viewed as super weird.
Almost NO ONE wants to co-sign a rental agreement for someone in a beeKeeper outfit, it:s like showing up at a cocktail party dressed in a SCUBA suit.
If you look or act differently in any way you tend to get noticed VERY quickly and simply tolerated in a very formal, polite way and nothing more —EVER.
You can sit in one place for YEARS and you:re still a rolling stone.
