Better idea ... return gun clubs to high schools as they were a generation ago. Like teaching the kids to drive, teach them to properly handle (and respect) a firearm. Better to have educated and uninfringed citizens, then uneducated and infringed subjects.

I said “offer” orientation, not require.

You fell for the ruse that Obunga cares about safety. This is not about safety. It’s about finding a path to confiscation.

If Obunga gave a damn about children dying he’d campaign AGAINST PP and abortion.

I think they should give training at the point of sale, because by the look of those things there is not enough space to plaster all those warning stickers on. /sarc

Even if there is statistically more likely that you die from having/owning guns than preventing your death

Total hogwash. You are statistically more likely to be killed by your own gun than to kill someone else with it, primarily because of suicides. However killing someone with a gun is no the metric to determine if it saved your life. Most uses of guns in self defense don't involve shooting anyone, let alone killing them. And if you shoot an intruder, who is to say whether you would have been killed or not? I know someone who was surrounded by several black yutes who very belligerently told him they like his SUV, and he should give them the keys so they could take a drive. He pulled his S&W out, pointed at the ground, and said "I'm going home now". They instantly said "We were just kidding", and left quickly. There was no police report, no shots fired, and that would never appear in any statistics. Did his gun save his life? Maybe, or maybe just a beating and having his car stolen. But the bottom line is there is no way to know how many lives guns save. The gun control liars only count people who are in actual shootouts with criminals.

Taking gun safety and gun handling classes should be a requirement for graduating from government funded public high schools.

It can’t be a condition for exercising a God-given right.

It actually should be a requirement to enter high school. Almost every male I went to school with was shooting since elementary school.

Why don't dealers and the NRA offer orientation training as a first gun purchase condition?

Sirius Lee

Why don't stationary stores require that you be trained in proper grammar before you are allowed to purchase paper and pen?

Why don't political parties require that you have political orientation training before voting?

This is karst country;even cars have been swallowed whole! I ain’t going in one looking for no dropped huntin’ rifles;there be snakes and bugs , and who knows how deep that hole is?!

Seriously;people in this area used to use sinkholes as trash dumps and dumped huge piles ,only to see that stuff vanish in a few months.

yetidog said: "... what I don't understand ..."

I see two things you don't understand.

Less importantly, you should understand that the vast majority of the millions of members of the NRA are not gun dealers or manufacturers. In exercising our rights there is little to no consideration given to increasing profits. We don't spend our days trying to find more business for them.

More importantly, you need to understand that there is no satisfying those who would infringe our rights to accomplish their ends. They make the false claim that some infringement will improve the situation. Then when that has been implemented, the fact that no improvement has taken place is entirely ignored. Instead, we are demonized for not supporting yet another infringement.

The truth is that anti-gunners hate guns, self-defense, self-reliance of any kind, and gun owners. Absolutely nothing we might do will change that in any way.

The goal of anti-gunners is to eliminate private ownership of firearms. Should they accomplish that, they will then set their eyes on eliminating ownership of knives. (Don't laugh. That is being pursued in Great Britain.)

There is no satisfying them. There is absolutely no justification for giving in to ANY of their infringements. They should be fought at every turn. They are a danger to ourselves and our posterity.

This how it works in Norway. 1. You take a training safety class about $200. 2. The instructor gives you a completion form. 3. You take it to the police station. They do a background check and issue you a permit card. 4. Take card to purchase rifle (handguns are nearly impossible to get permits for) along with a very expensive gun safe which must be able to be bolted to an immovable wall. 5. Take bill of sale to police for registration. 6. You must pass a yearly proficiency test to be able to go hunting. 7. Be subject to random inspection (w/ 48 hour notice) of gun safe by police. The guns do not have to be present as many people leave them at their cabins.

This could be Amerika in 15-20 years. Hopefully Jesus comes before then.

I forgot to add you can own no more than 6 rifles and all have to be of different calibers. You can only own 15K rounds of ammo of which 5K must be .22 cal. Strangely, silencers are legal here and are considered neighborly for use. SMH.

“I said ‘offer’ orientation, not require.”

Are you being disingenuous, or just stupid? You wrote “. . .offer orientation training as a first gun purchase condition. . . .”

The implication of requirement is pretty clear.

I, too, own guns, yetidog. A damn sight more than you, I’ll wager. I load my own ammunition. I kill the majority of the meat served at my table. I can field strip an M9 pistol, an M4 carbine, and an M240 SAW, blindfolded, put all of their component parts inside of a gunny sack at the same time, then reassemble the three, sight unseen, and perform a function check on all of them in less than 15 minutes. And I have competed in a number of international shooting competitions, including ones where your targets shoot back.

Compared to me, YOU are a piker. Unskilled and unfit to own a firearm.

If it were up to me, you couldn’t own anything more dangerous than a starter’s pistol unless and until you’re trained up to what I regard as the standards of responsible gun ownership by a reputable training academy or the military services.

Fortunately for you, it isn’t up to me, it’s up to the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution.

And everything else is merely a matter of perspective. What part of SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED surpasses your level of reading comprehension?
