With the 2015 regular season coming to an end, which coaches and GMs will get their walking papers? The Browns got things started a day early on Sunday by parting ways with Mike Pettine and Ray Farmer, but there are surely more to come.
Read on for updates, reactions and analysis as the firings of Black Monday roll in.

Tom Coughlin resign yet I wonder?
Fickle sports. The 49ers win three super bowls every other year and now they are wallowing in sub mediocrity.
Once again it proves that in sports it is only ‘what have you done for me lately?’
Of course, way too much money involved for this to be anything else.
ah yes...meanwhile if you go back to august, peter king and the rest of the morons at si were warning that everyone should watch out for the 49ers as tomsulo was a terrific coach and familiar with the organization...
McCoy is a dead man walking in SD er Carson. I really hope the know nothing about football Spanos’s keep him. LA so treats losers well.
“The Browns got things started a day early on Sunday by parting ways with Mike Pettine and Ray Farmer, but there are surely more to come. “
actually the Eagles got things started before the final week of the season firing chip kelly, then the Dolphins followed suit firing their GM before the final game of the year...but when has si ever been correct?
Wait, SI is still a thing?
If Coughlin is forced out, the Giants need to give GM Jerry Reese the heave-ho as well. Sure, he drafted OBJ, but he’s had more than his share of busts. The once-vaunted Giants defense looks like a block of Swiss and they need immediate help along the DL, at LB and someone who can actually cover at safety.
Coughlin did an admirable job this year, given how little he had to work with. I think it’s time for him to go, and Reese shouldn’t be far behind him. However, the Mara and Tisch families (who own the Giants) abhor making too many changes at once. I’ve seen quite a few pundits predict that Coughlin will retire and Reese will be retained because ownership “likes the way he does his job.”
That’s a bit like an airline saying a pilot looked really good in his uniform, it was just unfortunate he flew the plane into the ground and killed everyone on board. This year’s depleted roster was a Jerry Reese special and it’s time for him to go.
BTW, ESPN quoted Saints coach Sean Payton as saying he is “very interested” in the Giants position. Not sure if ownership would be interested in going that route, but Payton is a name coach with a Super Bowl victory under his belt. Signing him would mean giving up at least one draft choice and given the gaps on defense, I’m not sure the Giants can afford to give those up.
This much is certain: the Giants will have about $50 million in cap space to work with in the off-season and someone other than Jerry Reese should be deciding how to spend it.
Thanks for the update. I live in Jacksonville and was one of the ones screaming for Coughlin to go, little did I know (at that time) how good we had it with him. He may be passed it now bit back the he had at least several more good years of coaching left in him, illustrated by him taking the G men to a super bowl win within 5 years of leaving here. When he did that the people around here were sick...............me included.
No, not being fickle, just recognizing that management has destroyed an organization which was once one of the elites in the NFL, but that was years ago.
From 1996 to today the 49ers have been in one Super Bowl.
BTW, I was a season ticket holder for most of those years, including through the Jeff Garcia and Alex Smith eras.
Oh please let one of them be Jim Caldwell . . . oh please, please, please . . . oh puhleeaaassseee!
And take Matthew Stafford with ya!
I was in San Jose during a good part of Joe Montana’s reign. Exciting days. Now he has pockets full of quarters for Papa John - who makes disgusting pizza! They have to be near the bottom in quality.
they do a great job of confirming the news others report/break...
That would be the Kate Upton 2014 Cook Island swimsuit spread. Correct as correct can be.
why.. with all the injurys to the OL.. I really didnt expect a great season.. as for the know nothing owners. they need to step aside for football people
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Coughlin return to Jax.
My biggest gripe with Coughlin (as a long-time Giants fan) was his refusal to make staff changes earlier in his tenure. It’s remarkable that he won two Super Bowls with Kevin Gilbride as his offensive coordinator. Gilbride advocated a vertical, high-risk passing attack, even when the Giants didn’t have receivers like OBJ. A lot of Eli’s picks were the results of the offensive scheme and the personnel available to execute it.
The Giants offense has improved greatly over the past two seasons, simply because they’ve given Eli more options, with fewer high-risk throws. If Coughlin had made that change earlier, the Giants would have a few more divisional championships, and possibly, another Super Bowl ring. But he’s still a HOF coach; what he did with the expansion Jaguars was nothing short of amazing.
