Trump boxing the media: It's how he fashions a fighting image (While enjoying himself)
Fox News ^ | December 22, 2015 | Howard Kurtz

Toward the end of my third campaign interview with Donald Trump, I finally got a glimpse into why he spends so much time and energy attacking journalists.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. I told the Republican front-runner in our Trump Tower sitdown on Friday that he has every right to hit back at media people who criticize him, and there's been no shortage of harsh criticism.

What I wanted to know is why he's so obsessive about it. Why he's calling out lesser-known reporters at rallies. Why he's using Twitter to slam cable news commentators and guests around the clock. Whether calling them dopes and losers is presidential.

As we sparred over Trumpss view of the political press as dishonest, he said:

"It's good when I fight them. First of all, it makes me feel good. Second of all, second of all, it takes away credibility. You have to fight for yourself. That's the problem with our country, we don't fight for ourselves."

Ding ding ding ding. Now it's becoming clear.

“It's good when I fight them. First of all, it makes me feel good. Second of all, second of all, it takes away credibility. You have to fight for yourself. That's the problem with our country, we don't fight for ourselves.”

In this statement he encapsulates exactly why the left hates him. He engages them and doesn't run from their attacks. He takes them on, doesn't cower from the fight, and while making himself the most available, spontaneous, genuine, and unrehearsed political candidate they've likely ever encountered, he dismantles their points, and treats them as people without credibility. He reduces their stature, and has changed the game forever.

Unlike so many before him, he does not and will not play perpetual defense with them, running scared when they think they've scored points. He hits back, destroys their points, and when they think they have a good ‘gotcha’, he doubles down and counterpunches with strength. They are the ones who are on the run, and they are the ones who often come away on the losing end - having lost credibility. Every time they attack and the tables are turned on them, they look worse - and it showcases them as the ones with an agenda.

Others will learn from this, and the illusion that you can't fight back has been exposed. He's shifted the paradigm.

the other candidates don’t engage the media because they’re afraid. Trump is not afraid

Yes, others cowered before their attacks, but they did not have the personal funds to keep going when the attacks would destroy their funding. Since Trump doesn’t depend on outside funds, he can do this.

However, this means only the really rich can fight the media machine and win. Which means common people can never make a difference at this level.

Horsefeathers!!!!!

He’s giving us a template of ‘how to’
We need to screw up our courage and do it!

Do we want to be a people who cower from a raised eyebrow????

NO!

Sure, he has money.....but he burned his bridges with a lot of his ‘wealthy’ friends ( some who don’t call him a friend anymore, shallow they are)

He truly has aligned with us!

Trump has spent almost nothing on his campaign. Jeb and the rest have spent 25 million plus.

. Jeb has/had >100 million avalable spend.

But the fact is that without a sizable chest of funds to make the meetings and get from place to place and hold the speeches and etc., there would be no upswell of people listening.

I am not talking about moral cowardice, I am talking about the fact we would not even know what he was saying if he didn’t have the funds to run his own campaign.

And who cares about his wealthy friends, he did not need their money.

The “how to” only works if you have enough funds to support yourself or one or two extremely rich people (think Soros) who will fund you. Other than that, your voice will be drowned out.

Trump is succeeding because he made his pile, than went into politics. I wonder what things he did making his pile which will come back to haunt him when the other side needs something to hang him with?

I take exception with your
‘Common people can never make a difference at this level’

They have.....They can......and They will!

I said it in the context with running for the highest office.

Common people, such as we, do make a difference with our support on the grass roots level, but until a critical mass of us want something done, the people on that level rarely even notice.

SO, take exception, but point out the common person that mattered at that level and I will recuse my statement.

Are you talking ‘just’ in the political realm?

Or does this include the broad shoulders of those we stand on who led the way for us....in past history?

Politically....here’s a name for you.

You forgot to include how much Trump has spent so far.

I’m guessing from your comments that you don’t know, so I’ll tell you; less than anyone else.

As a bonus every time they attack him he gets stronger and more people are attracted to him.

The MSM don't get it. They are about to denigrate him INTO the White House.

Your caveat would be true, except for the undeniable fact that Trump’s money has been a non-factor thus far. He has only had to spend a paltry $300K on his campaign. His constant skillful use of social media, and his powerful personality, FORCES the drive-by media to cover him or get left in the dust.

“However, this means only the really rich can fight the media machine and win. Which means common people can never make a difference at this level.”

I understand your point, but I think their are lots of ways around this. We've yet to see an effective internet-based campaign, with real-time internet campaign events and dissemination of ideas and candidate identity via non-traditional means (e.g. real-time online debates). This is just one alternative avenue.

You are incorrect, it has been reported he has only spent two million.

But does that cover the use of his personal plane, personal helicopter, personal limousines?

His campaign did not buy those, he did, from his own personal money. All other candidates do not have that kind of personal war chest, except for Hillary.

And as I have said in another post, he has a lot of his own stuff to campaign with. His campaign is being run by one of his family, using their own offices to do so. He has his personal staffers doing websites and internet polling and other jobs, again, from his own preexisting company and staff.

This is not touching the money donated to him.

OM, what if Trump is the elites candidate of choice and the MSM hatred of him is faux, just to get him elected?

I may have to change my vote to H>.

His adversaries in the media are propagandists, not journalists.
