I have also read that KFC is the chic place for wedding receptions in China. However, Coke starting in the early 1950s created our iconic image of Santa to push Coke sales at Christmas.

The iconic look of Santa was made by a political cartoonist named Thomas Nast in the 1800's. He is also the man who invented the elephant as a symbol for the GOP and donkey for the Democrats.
Coke started using Santa in the 20's.
