Mail critic gets first glimpse of new Star Wars blockbuster and says it's the best one [tr]

Boy, has the Force awoken. In truth, it has been stirring for months, with expectations for this seventh Star Wars instalment reaching levels somewhere between over-excited and histrionic. The merchandising alone, extending even to Darth Vader showerheads, is expected to pour $5billion into the Disney coffers. At times, it's been easy to forget that there is actually a film at the heart of all the crazy razzmatazz. But here it is, ten years after the last outing, 2005's disappointing Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, and happily, ten times better.

Non-spoiler thumbs up. I wonder if Lucas is pissed off that it appears J.J. Abrams will blow Lucas and his horrible prequels out of the water. I wonder how he feels now he if the 3rd best director of the franchise after Irvin Kershner and Abrams.

I’ll judge for myself, but I am relieved it’s not getting a splat on Rotten Tomatoes.

Next thing for Abrahms and Disney to do to solidify themselves in the continuing Star Wars saga is to re-release the Original Trilogy as its was originally released.... NOT with the crap that Lucas added afterwards!

So can this film stand on it’s own as an entry to the series for a new generation of filmgoers?

Can you watch this film and have any clue what is going on if you’ve never seen a previous SW franchise film or product?

Sorry...I loved the first three...and have no interest in any of the others.Sequels/prequels are almost always a disaster...with the exception of Godfather II and The Dark Knight.

Lucas doesn’t own it anymore. He might have some financial interest in the deal, but he sold Lucasfilm outright to Disney, including ILM, for around $4,000,000,000.

So he isn’t hurting for money, but this film isn’t going to make him money (except that he is the second largest share holder in Disney, so he will increase his worth that way.)

I meant the 4 bill. That would take a while to count.

I heard when this movie comes out on Blu-ray, they will offer a 3-D version.

Any truth to that?

The new Star Trek is not getting good reviews for the preview that was released and I think JJ Abrams had a had in that movie but not as director.

Star wars may suffer from his input along with Simon Pegg (Scotty).

#9 It will come out in 4D as “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....”

Sports has gotten into Star Wars.

“Smellovision”

I dunno. Are you willing to risk what a wookie fart smells like? It could put you off your popcorn.
