I've been to Honduras a few times and I can tell you that the sand flies along the coastal beaches are absolutely horrible. They're no bigger than a no-see-um but boy do they bite and the itching can last up to a month.

I'd rather be stung by a bunch of yellow jacket bees than bitten by the sand flies.........

As a side note, the Hondurans I vacationed with were totally unaffected by them.........
