My nephew, a TX Highway Patrolman, says that when a CHL comes up on his computer,
"I expect that I'm dealing with one of the good guys." Then, "When he shows me his CHL in front of his DL, I'm fairly sure he's a good guy..."

In CA I also think they can search DOJ database for ‘registered’ firearms.
Don’t know how long that would take, or how often they do this.
