Woman's Car Rats Her Out After She Tries To Pull A Hit And Run: Cops

Most of us like to think of ourselves and our cars as a team. We look out for them, they look out for us. There’s limits, though, as 57-year old Cathy Bernstein learned, when her Ford Focus called 911 after she hit a truck and a van and fled the scene, according to news reports. It’s pretty sad when your car is the one with the conscience.

Police in Florida (of course) say Bernstein hit the truck, and then rear-ended a minivan before leaving the scene. Her Focus was equipped with Ford’s 911 Assist system, part of Ford’s SYNC offerings. The 911 Assist uses a paired Bluetooth phone to contact 911 in the event of an accident, as determined by the car’s sensors, police said.

After the car called 911, the dispatcher called Bernstein to confirm:

Dispatcher: ... your car called in saying you’ve been involved in an accident. It doesn’t do that for no reason. Did you leave the scene of an accident?

Bernstein: No, I would never do that.

Well, never, except for this time, when you did, lady. So, if you’re keeping track, we’re at two substantial, illegal lies and/or actions from the driver, and the car’s moral track record is still spotless. Bernstein was arrested. So far, there’s no word if the car will get any sort of special civilian vehicle commendation or award. The lesson here? If you want to do something bad, make sure your car is either in on it or too old and dumb to squeal on you.

The lesson here?

If you value your privacy, make sure your car isn't spying on you.

Shades of a Twilight Zone episode! The guy hits a kid and kills him and his car haunts him and takes him to the police station.

Agree.

But a more important lesson is: Don't leave the scene of an accident.

I guess I see things differently. To me, this whole matter is far more important than some bimbo leaving the scene.

Woman's Car Rats Her Out After She Tries To Pull A Hit And Run: Cops

Wrong spin. All your electronic stuff is watching you and will sell you out to the government.

Soon the government will be able to tax you by the miles you drive, prohibit you from driving where they don't want you to go, or prohibit you from driving at all unless they say so.

This is the start of electronic population *CONTROL*.

Hold on just one minute! A FORD FOCUS has that feature?

Actually there is probably already a law stating this feature WILL be mandatory by 2020.

Big government only uses technology to hinder our movement about the country now, not to enhance it. Have you ever been sitting at a large intersection and NO cars are moving from any direction like me? Every day.

Cars that spy on us. Roadside cameras that spy on us. Phones that spy on us. Banks that spy on us. Doctors that spy on us. Tv’s that spy on us. Water meters that spy on us. Appliances that spy on us. And the neighbor’s cat is always watching me too (the Egyptians said cats are the gods’ spies on us — so verily there’s nothing new about That, ha!) smile smile smile

Twilight Zone: Season 5, Episode 14 You Drive (3 Jan. 1964), Edward ...

twilight zone you drive

"You Drive" is episode 134 of the American television anthology series The Twilight Zone. It originally aired on January 3, 1964, on CBS.

Oliver ('Ollie') Pope is in a hurry. The nervous and distracted man's mind is not on his driving, and as a result, he slams his 1956 Ford Fairlane two-door sedan into Timmy Danbers, a young boy delivering newspapers on a bicycle, injuring him seriously enough that the boy eventually dies of his injuries. Pope stops, but then, instead of offering aid, hurries off, trying to conceal his part in the accident.

His wife, Lillian, and his co-workers notice that he is increasingly irritable. A co-worker, Pete Radcliff, is inaccurately identified by a witness and Pope does everything to foment that erroneous suspicion.

Before long, the vehicle seems to take on a mind of its own. The vehicle itself rebels against its owner: at first, when Ollie Pope is near the car, it honks its horn, flashes its lights, attempts to start on its own, drops its bumper, tries to close its hood on him, and repeats the radio newsflash of the boy's death in an attempt to get Ollie's attention.

Then, while his wife is driving the car, it drives to the scene of the accident and stalls out, seemingly determined to get Pope to admit his guilt. Eventually as Pope starts walking to work so the car is not seen by police, the car leaves Pope's garage on its own, chases him down the street in a rain storm and seems to be about to run him down. It stops just before doing this and the passenger door opens; Pope gets in and the car then drives him to the police station, where he walks in to confess.

Only an idiot would do a hit-and-run, tattletale car or no and think they would get away with it-there are these things called “witnesses” that no one notices until it is too late, there are physical things like paint transfer, etc.

I was hit by someone on my way from work who took off-not only was there a witness, but the clueless ditz who hit my truck drove to the nearest Jenny Craig to pick up diet food-where a cop saw her-she was busted because she just had to have those diet snacks...

As far as I’m concerned, the issue for me is privacy, so I drive a 20 year old 4x4, and I’m quite happy with that...

Yeppers. A neighbor of mine had his truck wrecked by a hit and run driver.

Who conveniently left their bumper cover - WITH LICENSE PLATE STILL ATTACHED!!!

Cops had an easy time of that one, for sure.

I didn’t care too much for it or the 56 T-Bird, in comparison to the 56 Chevy Bel Air and 56 Corvette. But definitely both are still nice cars, IMO.
