Chloe Pugh, a PhD student at the University of Warwick's centre for fusion, space and astrophysics, and her colleagues made warning after studying a star 1,480 light years away in the Milky Way.
This star, called KIC9655129, regularly produces superflares but the researchers found when it does so it produces wave patterns similar to those in our sun when it generates flares.
Miss Pugh said: 'Solar flares consist of a series of regular pulses resembling waves, occasionally with multiple waves superimposed on one another.
'The properties of waves in a stellar superflare are consistent with those in solar flares.'
This 'coronal seismology' has parallels with the study of earthquakes.
Dr Anne-Marie Broomhall, who co-author of the study published in Astrophysical Journal Letters, added: 'When a flare occurs we see a rapid increase in intensity followed by a gradual decline, sometimes with noticeable bumps or quasi-periodic pulsations (QPPs).'

Not even our sun. One that’s 1400 light years away. That’s some serious global warming.
