Strangely, my best friend (who is a woman) has a perfect sense of ordinal direction, but cannot correctly identify left versus right. Her brain freezes, and she comes up with NO ANSWER. Not Right, not Left, just nothing .....
But she knows exactly where South East is right now. And she can turn from any ordinal direction to any ordinal direction. Just don’t ask her if that was a left or a right.
I’m a lefty and get lost regularly. I also freeze re left/right.
My wife has the same left-right problem. She just freezes up. If, eventually, she does make a decision, it is the wrong one about 95% of the time.
Thus, she is pretty much useless in the front seat of a canoe in anything approaching whitewater. Or, for that matter, in the driver's seat of a car -- taking directions from a passenger/navigator.
Moreover, unlike your friend, she has zero sense of direction. Can't find N even if the sun or moon is up.
