The Walking Dead has become the most boring show on television
NY Post ^ | December 5, 2015 | Kat George

The zombie apocalypse, it would seem, is an infinite source of story inspiration. What would individuals become? What would humanity devolve to? What would the world turn into? And yet somehow, The Walking Dead has managed to become the most boring show on television. Granted, I do not watch every single show on TV (because even work-from-home writers need to shower sometimes), but I can say with fair certainty I’d rather watch that show about Alaskan prospectors than AMC’s zombie saga. And when I say that I mean an episode where they prospect almost nothing at all. That’s how boring The Walking Dead has become.

(It’s worth mentioning here that I’m about to get into some spoilers, but most of them are a few seasons old by now. With that being said, let’s get on with the show…)

Let me qualify this announcement: TWD wasn’t always boring. It had a strong start, and a gripping first few seasons that might be comparable to Lost, another show which long outstayed its welcome. When viewers first entered the world of TWD, as we did with Lost, we were immediately thrown into the middle of catastrophe. The first episode of TWD taps into a very specific, very universal apocalypse anxiety. Namely, that is that the apocalypse will happen when we’re not looking, and that we’ll walk out into it alone, with no context for what happened, and no information about the state the world is in. And like Lost, there’s the mystery of the CDC, which is very Dharma Initiative-y, and the hermit scientist Jenner is very Desmond inside the hatch-y (although not half as handsome).

Indeed, TWD’s first season is responsible for some of the most iconic imagery in recent television history.

One person's opinion of TWD. I don't agree 100% but having Morgan dominate the season sure did make me want to turn the channel a few times.

Sorry about the added crap characters. They don't show up until I go to post the article so I can't edit them out.

I typically tune out shows about the occult such as this. But I have to say that the subject is quite limited and can only be retold so many times.

Can’t wait for The Squawking Dead. Or the Falking Dead starring Columbo.

Although others have different solutions, you can also simply replace all of the apostrophes and quotation marks in the excerpt with ' and " ", as opposed to the slanted ones which don't come through properly.

Below is an example of both types of apostrophes and quotation marks in a pre-post composition AND the result after posting or previewing both:

I like the show, but I have to agree. Its become repetitive. They’re going to have to find a way to inject some new life into it or I think the viewers are going to start leaving it.

Z nation is a lot more fun.

It started out as a cheap WD knockoff but they started adding humor and made it great.

It’s just a TV show. The writer seems to think it’s a big deal. It’s one of the few shows I watch regularly, but it’s getting repetitive, like any show that’s been on for years. The biggest plot holes this season have been characters trapped by, or supposedly eaten by, the zombies, who suddenly come running down the road yelling “Open the gate!”. My only other annoyance is the number of British actors in the show. Can’t they find any American actors?

There were a couple of good episodes this season. But they really need to move this show along.

Boring, sure.

How many ways can you hack out brains (that's a rhetorical question -- I don't really want to know the answer)?

But "the most boring"?

Not so much. TV's still a "vast wasteland" and most of what's on is worse.

The characters do seem to have got stuck in an endless loop, though -- going to some new community each year and learning to cope with their differences with those who are already there.

That's a familiar pattern for television series -- whether it's some lonely wanderer in the Old West, or Captain Kirk visiting a new planet every week -- but TWD doesn't quite make it work.

Maybe they're satisfied with some dramatic texture at the expense of excitement -- which is strange for a show that relies so much on violence, monster make-up, and crowd scenes.

I think they try too hard to be cerebral. This is supposed to be entertainment. A few more tight jeans and wet shirts on the ladies, more harrowing escapes, and a LOT less philosophizing and introspection on the parts of all the characters.

I actually find SciFi Z Nation to be more entertaining now. It doesn’t attempt to take itself seriously, much more “tongue in cheek”. A little cheesy on the effects at times, short on logic, a few more hot chicks along the way. More what a zombie story ought to be like. This ought to be [nearly] mindless entertainment IMO.

I never understood the popularity of this series. Although I loved many of the classic zombie films, including Night of the Living Dead, and Return of the Living Dead (actually a comedy of sorts). I couldn't get how they could take this scenario and drag it out to a weekly TV series. I mean, it's basically the same crap over and over again, each episode. My brother, his wife, and adult kids are addicted to this series as well. When they're not watching it, they're on the phone or internet discussing it.

That is what is wrong this season. . .slow and hardly moving.

Trying to build for a grande finale, I suppose, but come one. . .DO SOMETHING!!

How many times are we going to have to sit through yet another hand-wringing session about "What have we become?" When the world is turned upside-down, which the presence of hordes of zombies is wont to do anyplace but a DNC caucus, the "rules" go out the window. Since the "walkers" aren't even people, I don't understand how anyone can have any compunction against "killing" them; they're ALREADY DEAD!!!

And as for defending yourself against human raiders and such, if you're so damned reluctant to fight your enemies, then just lay down and let them kill you. But PLEASE!!!! spare us any more angst-ridden drabble and get about the business of eliminating zombies.

Oh, and wash your hair, Rick. You too, Daryl.

Well, Kat, if it is THAT boring, turn the channel.

If that doesn’t work, try the ON-OFF button.

It is a shame that evil AMC forces you to watch such a boring show.
