Don’t mean to upset anyone, but haven’t watched since the 3rd episode with Gabaldi. Clara’s irritating, The Doctor not engaging, and way too many social issue lectures woven in.I didnt even last that long, but I will try again sometime during the holiday perhaps.

You might try Tom Baker, especially with his companion, Leela, Warrior of the Sevateem. She was descended from a crash landed space exploration team that had devolved for generations into a primitive tribe. She was highly intelligent but The Doctor was always having to tell her not to stab people.
