Lefty Frizzell
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
William Orville "Lefty" Frizzell (March 31, 1928 â July 19, 1975) was an American country music singer-songwriter and was one of the most definitive honky-tonk singers of country music. A vocalist who set the style of singing "the country way" for the generations that followed, Frizzell became one of the most successful and influential artists of country music throughout his stellar career. He gained prominence in 1950 after two major hits, and throughout the decade was a very popular country performer. He smoothed out the rough edges of a honky tonk song by sounding out syllables longer and singing longer. Because of this, his music become much more mainstream without losing its honky tonk attitude and persona.
Frizzell is one of the most influential artists in country history. Among the artists he influenced are George Jones, Willie Nelson, Roy Orbison, Keith Whitley, Merle Haggard, and John Fogerty. He laid a foundation for the many generations of country music performers that followed him. Because of this, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1982. Though he started his career being influenced by his competitors, Frizzell rose to fame and became one of country's most important artists. After the death of Hank Williams in 1953, Frizzell's fame grew further, and he released many songs that charted in the Top 10 of the Hot Country Songs charts. Despite this success, it would not carry on into the 1960s, and after suffering from alcoholism, he died at age 47.

Lefty Frizzell discography
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lefty Frizzell was an American country music singer-songwriter, who gained massive popularity in 1950, following an explosive debut two-sided single ("If You've Got the Money (I've Got the Time)," "I Love You A Thousand Ways"). He released a string of successful hits from 1950-1955. He released a country standard "Long Black Veil" in 1959, and released three mostly unnoticed LP's. After The Long Black Veil in 1959, Frizzell didn't chart another single until 1963. The next year, he released his last of six US Country chart toppers: "Saginaw, Michigan."
After that, he released his first charting album with the same title, and it peaked at #2 in the same year. In 1965, Frizzell charted his last Top 20 hit, titled, "She's Gone, Gone, Gone". After developing a drinking habit, he released songs that didn't chart very well, and in 1972, he left his longtime label Columbia Records, and signed to ABC Records. In 1975, he was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and was given the Grammy Hall of Fame Award. This success led to more money, then more drinking. On July 19, 1975, Frizzell suffered a massive stroke and later died at the age of 47.
After a 25-year career, Lefty Frizzell had charted a little over 30 singles, and released 13 studio albums. Today, he is regarded as one of the most influential voices in country music history, inspirinng many of the next generation's artists. The following is collection of work gathered from 1950-2006:
