You don’t even have to read the article to see that someone called the police and complained so they responded. As they should have. So, if there is someone in your neighborhood breaking the law, no matter how trivial it may seem to others, if you report it to the police, you are OK with them telling you it isn’t worth their time?

You don’t even have to read the article...

Well, just supposing you did decide to read the article...

You'd find out that the gambling ordinance exempts penny-ante games with piddling stakes. In fact, it specifically cites mah-jong as a non-crime.

But, you'd only know that if you read the article.

Which I can assume that you didn’t.

It states that there was no law broken. I am assuming, once again, that you have never had a penny ante poker game hosted in your home. Also, not illegal.

If I were a betting person (which I am ;)) some lady got kicked out of this group and wanted revenge.

I would much prefer that my local police respond to real crime as opposed to a bunch of elderly ladies playing majong for a penny a point. But that’s just me.

If a schmuck like that calls the police to complain about a friendly game I’d be more then happy if the cops told the guy to go jump in a lake.

Even if it WAS a crime, which it wasn't, a petty regulation violation isn't, in my opinion, enough cause for police to enter private property. Doubly so for those who are 87 to 95 whom I considered grandfathered from almost all of the nonsense that has happened in laws for the past 40 years.

Grow the hell up. You want to see the police NOT respond? Call in a meth operation from which they're getting protection money. That's the way the world works.

But when you do read the article you find out that the police determined that they were doing nothing illegal. It is petty shit like this that keep police from investigating real crimes.

The women were sent a formal notice from condominium management stating that there would be no more mahjong, bingo, or poker played in the location until further notice. Police reportedly stopped by several times later that week to make sure the games weren't being played.

So thanks to the vigilance of an alert citizen and a responsible police force, criminal activity has been brought to a halt. You are obviously pleased.
