But Cruz was not merely trying to poison the amendment. He declared straight out that bringing illegals out of the shadows through "common sense" immigration reform was his goal. In interviews he specifically recoiled from the idea of deportation, and declared, again and again, that securing the border was first, but that legalization for the illegals already here would follow, though with the caveat that he would somehow bar them from citizenship forever.
Now into the Presidential election season, Cruz, in interview after interview, avoids questions about deportation like the plague, either repeating his stupid memorized speech, or else stating there will be a "conversation" after he is elected about what to do with illegals already here, and that all he wants to do now is to secure the border.
That's really all you need to know about Ted Cruz at this point. Conservatives need to wise up and stop rewriting history.
