Mainstream Media Admits It's Ignoring Ted Cruz
Conservative Review ^ | 11/12/2015 | Steve Deace

Ted Cruz knows a little something about what it's like to be on the other end of Melissa Click's wrath.

She is, of course, the associate professor of mass media from the University of Victimization—I mean Missouri—who sought to 'muscle' out those from the public square who didn't suit her progressive psychosis.

The terms 'media' and 'psychosis' obviously go hand in hand these days, as was made evident most recently by CNBC's debate shenanigans and Politico’s hit piece on Ben Carson. And as with Click's attempt to manipulate her campus playing field with arbitrary power over free speech, so too has Cruz seemingly been targeted by the press for marginalization.

But don't just take this right-winger's word for it. The liberal media is even admitting it.

Jim Tankersley of the Washington Post reported on Tuesday that Cruz has more cause to complain than any other candidate in the GOP field when it comes to the amount of press coverage he has earned relative to his performance in the polls.

And before anyone reminds me that I have a track record of calling the polls 'phony baloney,' let me make clear that the issue at hand is not whether that is true. The question is whether mainstream media—which itself conducts and believes abundantly in this polling data—is applying an equal standard to all the candidates in the Republican presidential field.

To that question, the answer is a resounding 'no.'

Using Real Clear Politics polling averages and then comparing them to each candidate's share of all on-air mentions (or 'earned media') on national cable networks this year, Tankersley reported that Donald Trump received 90 percent more air time than his polling numbers would appear to merit in 2015. Allow that number to sink in for a moment.

How can you not be leading the name I.D. driven polls with that much free publicity? I submit that if Jim Gilmore, or any other candidate in this field, were allotted 90 percent of the media coverage, they'd be leading the polls, too. Well, except for Lindsey Grahamnesty, because no matter the amount of coverage, GOP primary voters can see through his Republican facade.

Jeb Bush is another serial offender, receiving 70 percent more coverage than his polling numbers warrant. On the other hand, Cruz, Rand Paul and Mike Huckabee make up a group that has received between 60 and 70 percent less cable television coverage than their polling numbers seem to support. And for Cruz in particular, things get much worse when breaking down the numbers for the last month alone.

That is the period when Cruz was deemed to have one of the peak performances in the third GOP presidential debate, and jumped ahead of the floundering Bush in the polls. Yet over the last 30 days Cruz continued to make it on the air 70 percent less than his rising poll numbers demand, while Bush’s over-coverage has skyrocketed 177 percent beyond his actual polling relevance.

Granted, much of that coverage was likely negative for Bush. But what this amounts to is the equivalent of the media obsessing over a football team that won't make the playoffs instead of focusing on an actual winner.

That even includes venerable Fox News, who Tankersley points out have been every bit as bad according to his data when it comes to keeping Cruz in the shadows. All the social media questions I routinely get from conservatives about a 'Cruz blackout on Fox' turns out to have some empirical basis.

But Go Fox Go! 'Two legs good, four legs bad' is what I hear the sheep like to say right up until the point they are led to slaughter.

While the media can be somewhat excused for the disproportionate coverage of the force of nature that has been the Trump campaign, which has no doubt been a pleasure at times, its primary powers of bias and misinformation are not born out of giving a candidate too much attention.

whether the topic is Cruz, Hillary Clinton laughing at the notion of one of her supporters 'strangling' Carly Fiorina, or baby parts for sale, the press does some of its finest propaganda work when it simply decides not to talk about you at all.

The fact is whether the topic is Cruz, Hillary Clinton laughing at the notion of one of her supporters 'strangling' Carly Fiorina, or baby parts for sale, the press does some of its finest propaganda work when it simply decides not to talk about you at all.

Planned Parenthood tapes? What Planned Parenthood tapes? Isn't that back on the bumper, man?

Proven lies about Hillary and Benghazi? Wait, but have we really dug into Ben Carson's teenage years yet?

Cruz could actually win this thing? Right after we make up a Christian backlash against Starbucks coffee cups.

Keep the earth flat at all costs. That's the song the Melissa Click's of the propaganda journalism world whistle while they work. If the First Amendment and other Constitutional protocols help them do that, so be it. But if those tools get in the way, they can be ignored, too. Come hell or high water, we'll get the story we want or you will be made to care.

No one on the Republican side of the presidential ledger has effectively highlighted and mocked this sorry state of affairs more than Cruz. His ability to build a professional campaign, while staying true to conservative orthodoxy, demolishes the Overton Window of 'principled conservatives are crazy and can't win' the Left and GOP establishment alike have pushed on us for decades. Thus, he must be shunned.

I just pray that one year from now, when the media/progressive complex is hopefully writing passive aggressive headlines about its collective demise, like 'patriarchy steals election from Hillary' or 'racist conservatives threaten to overturn Obama's utopian grooviness,' it's all code for one simple truth.

Cruz won anyway.

The idea of a democrat facing Ted Cruz in a debate gives them all brown stains in their shorts.

The MSM are propagandists posing as reporters.

I would pay to watch Ted Cruz eviscerate Hillary.

First, NUKE THE FCC - root cause of this trash. Bring back constitutionally protected freedom of speech.

Next, somebody on the Right with half a brain and a decent amount of godly faith needs to buy out these scribes and pharisees, or better yet, once the FCC is obliterated, freedom-lovers can build their own their own networks (no more "fair and balanced" b.s.) and no one will pay attention to these yokels.

Look at the strategy here. The Donald is obviously sucking up all the media attention, and in doing so, pretty much leaves most of the other candidates as shadows. Of these shadows, perhaps Ted Cruz is the one with the most looming presence, but he is not getting much if any NEGATIVE scrutiny.

If this the mainstream media tactic to isolate and diminish Ted Cruz, then it has huge potential for backfire. The push is on to try to attach SOME tag, SOME blemish, to The Donald, and nothing much sticks. This has to be one of the most frustrating thing about covering The Donald, yet the media cannot simply ignore him, as they may with some of the other candidates.

But the campaign of Ted Cruz continues to build in the background, the legend growing almost unnoticed beneath their very noses, as they are focused away.

Just consider who may be the Attorney General and in charge of the Department of Justice on January 23, 2017. The Left’s nightmares have not yet begun in earnest.

Ted Cruz is the leftist media's worse nightmare.

He is equally despised by the progressives in both the parties.

I like that plan. I’m sick of these liberals manipulating everything through their propaganda.

We should vote for the guy who the media and the GOPe hate the most.

That is the only way we will get another Ronald Reagan.

We saw how easily he handled Kasich and Kasich is a pro.

He may very well have ended Kasich’s run by pushing him into supporting bailouts.

I am a Cruz supporter, but Trump gets the media coverage he does for a lot of reasons that have nothing to do with polling. He has been tabloid fodder for 30 years. He’s an interesting guy. He is yugely quotable. He knows where to be and how to be there. He can be Ike, Daddy Warbucks or Millionaire Bruce Wayne of Stately Wayne Manor . . . whatever is called for.

TV, radio, newspapers are buisinesses. Trump gives them the opportunity to make money. They can’t not seize the opportunity.

I think it is cool that Cruz has twice scored the most favorable ranking of statements in a debate ever, and he forced Kasich to make the most unfavorably ranked statement in a debate ever.

I fully get Trump’s media coverage. It still doesn’t make the medias’ deliberately ignoring Cruz smell any better.
